Venus vs Jelena

Venus will win in 3 tight sets! Experience and her serve will have an edge over Jankovic.

Jankovic should win.
She seems to be playing much better lately and wonīt allow Venus too many easy runs to the net.

9i hope venus she has to be the classiest champion in womens tennis so humble and down to earth

whereas jankovic, sorry but i cant stand her the comments after she was put on court 18 at the home of tennis was some sort of insult, she hasnt got to a final then what would you rather see fed, rafa, murray or jankovic

and she is the worst player man or women to use every excuse when she loses or for everything

sorry but venus any day of the week for me

agree that JJ whines a lot (especially when not winning), which is why I call her Jeremiah.

So maybe we should say :

will win Jankovic
should win Venus

I'm not a huge fan of JJ but I think she'll win in two comfortable sets.

Ivanovic just beat Dementieva in straight sets including a breadstick. Didn't watch it so no idea if she played well or if Dementieva was useless, but it's certainly a shock given that Elena was a bad matchup even when Ana could actually play tennis.

I just watched the match, Ana is better than ever. She can actually move now, which meant she can engage in rallies rather than rush the net. Excellent serving (over 70%), no silliness and squeaking, very level-headed AT LAST!

I cant see Venus beating JJ on red clay, particularly as JJ has just hammered in form Wickmayer. Venus may well get a lesson in the quarters. The revelation of this tournament is Ana Ivanovic - now beaten Vesnina, Azarenka and Dementieva. All in straight sets. Put your money on for the French now!<wizard>

Yeah considering her h2h against Dementieva was 0-4, this was a good win for her, even if Dementieva is not that good on clay lately.

Somehow I don't see venus getting a lesson unless miami final Vee turns up. It should be interesting. If you look at the stats in their matches it appears that the winner of the first set seems to lose a lot. Venus may be able to force jj back if she serves well.

JJ has a double job to undertake.
Dispatch Williams thereby preventing the American displacing C-Woz at world number two in the next rankings.
(She's already dislodged Dinara at number three in the next rankings FGS!)
And secondly for JJ, return to the world top five, which JJ can do should she reach the semis.

I'm not sure which is more important, it certainly is moderately so for JJ to return to the top five.
However imagine Williams being one AND two in the rankings !

I know in GB we may be returning to the past in other areas shortly, for womens' tennis to mirror our potential backward-step also, with TWO twentieth century players at the helm (C'mon ONE is almost unendurable !) would just be much too much "goin' back" to take.

I can imagine that easily, conosu....
;-)
Much easier than the prospect of a Tory govt!
:-(
That said, this year might be Jankovic's best chance of winning a Slam - the French. That would finally get that monkey off her back....

" I can imagine that easily, conosu...."

I know Shiv, you have a good imaginitive facility.
I'm sure you're anticipating an all-Williams semi also.
Should JJ fail, it'll be down to Serena (should she overcome Ma-Kiri later) to prevent her sis joining her at the top of the rankings.
Venus would return to number two should she win the title.

Vika out of the ten, replaced by Barbie.
Bepa at number twenty.
C-Woz down to three, Dinara at four.
Williams one and two ??
Heaven forfend !!
The only positive would be JJ returning to the top five.

Rankings.... please join the twenty-first century.

well its all one way traffic. Especially since can't put a ball away at 40-0 that had the whole court to aim at. Sensing a bagel.

As I said before Jankovic should win this.

But Venus will regroup (serving better) at some point and start putting up a fight.

How well JJ does will give us an idea of what her chances are for getting to the final and how strong a contender she will be at RG.

Jelena is having to do an awful lot now is she. Put a couple deep balls in or just a ball. Venus makes a stupid error and this match is running out of time for Venus. Only 8 winners for jj, 20 errors from venus i wonder what is the root of the scoreline.

For JJ it is: bagel + breadstick. Now do you still think that Venus can win RG?

Well she is a great grass court player and will do well at Wimbeldon but is fast approaching 30 on her clay, her least favourite surface, it is not really a surprise.

Serena, if anything should be motivated by JJ's win over her sister! She hates the fact that someone can beat them both in the same tournament! I hope Serena plays her A game, JJ wont be a match!!!

Neither Venus or Serena are match tight. Serena hasnt played since the Australian! She is going to find it really tough. I reckon they will both return to the US rather than grind it out in Europe. Venus is nearly 30 and not prepared to exchange 20/30 shot rallies on clay. JJ will beat Serena without a doubt.

@ herefordu!!! haven't you learnt to never write Serena Williams off? Serena is one player who know what it takes to win, if she wants!!! If anything, she'll come out tomorrow and play good to save the family embarrassment of both girls loosing to the same player! you can write Venus off but not Serena! She wont loose without a fight! Trust me and if she's to loose, she wont loose by that score!

I didnt say Serena wasnt a great player! She will simply pay over the next few days for her lack of preparation and match practice. Clay hasnt really been her surface for a few years 2003? The Serbs really know how to play on it, are super-confident and one or other - probably JJ will sweep Serena off the court. You are letting yr heart rule your head. Logic dictates Im afraid <wizard>

I have to agree that JJ is the most likely winner judging by what I have seen this week. Serena is serving bombs but definitely not match fit.
I can't remember seeing JJ so calm and self contained on court, no face pulling, no chat, no imploring looks to the coach.

Let's wait and see tomorrow! Am not saying Serena will win over JJ but one thing I've learnt is to never predict a match Serena is going to contest! She can play when no one expects her to play bad when she's expected to! It's hard to predict with Serena! You and I don't know how she'll face tomorrow!!! Remember she's gonna play with less pressure coz the odds are with JJ at the mo, and that's an advantage for her! I still expect Serena to have a tough day @ office though coz JJ's no push over!

Two good things so far.
JJ will return to the world top five in Monday's rankings, the top four should she make the final.
The indescribably arrogant Venus Williams will not join, perhaps the only player in the top 100 even more objectionable, her 'lil sis', at the top of the rankings.

By that I maen Williams will not displace C-Woz at world number two, which could have been possible with a title win for Venus.

Perhaps in between counting their millions, either or both Americans, could examine more closely C-Woz's demeanour, both on and off court, and realise even multi-slammers can learn from younger players in the area of diplomatic communication, both to other players and administrators, and the world in general.

Well done JJ.
Continue the good work and dispatch the other arrogant American - another bagel would be MOST welcome - later today.

posted May 7, 2010

SW takes first set in 52 minutes and the stats show that she is playing better.

As I didnīt see JJ play against Venus, I looked up the highlights of the match and it showed to me that JJ was very solid and focused, but there were not really any "highlights" as in brilliantly played points.

This probably explains why she has difficulty beating Henin and maybe Serena as well.
