I still think he should be sold in the summer because he's on such vast wages but doing well tonight as is Obi, I think.

Think it's unfair to criticse Anelka when he's played out of position. It seems that, generally speaking, our best formation only encompasses one central striker and I'm not in favour of shoe-horning Anelka into the team in a wide or deeper position.

However, I do agree that it's vital to have someone comfortable in possession in midfield. Look at Barcelona/Spain with their guys. They keep the ball it seems as long as they want.

Well they did beat a team that thrashed you 4-1 at your own yard, so perhaps they are good.

I thought Deco played well tonight and our team lacks that sort of player the majoruty of the time. Deco will be leaving in the summer but that's no reason not to go out on a high.

stick to your own boards, nobody is getting over excited here, merely praising a good effort from a much-maligned player.

had it been Scholes who put in a display like that against the minnows, Mancs would be right now creating 10s of articles claiming how he should be at the world cup and he is the best midfielder in the prem, better than Fabregas, Gerrard and Lampard <doh>

You don't get it, do you? With that win, team confidence in the dressing room could skyrocket, lifting us out of our current rough patch, and possibly even giving us the boost to surge forward and take the title. We're back in it, baby!

We know we have to play tough games and we know Pompey are bottom of the league.

However, we won and we are entitled to be happy about it and we may as well enjoy our run-in whether it is hard, or not.

Yeah, you're completely right. We should just stop trying now, we're a WHOLE point behind. Spurs, Villa and Liverpool are all better than us, so there's just no point in us even going for it really, is there? <doh> So, played Leeds recently?

Since I've joined 606 I have only ever complained about 2 people.

One person for being a racist.

The other person for saying that Eduardo & Ramsey were done favours by having their legs smashed, because they were poor footballers, and that Roy Keane should smash Theo's leg because there is no hope for them.

There is no question as to his underage. I only see you around here at night when you have finished your homework. Your spelling, grammar, punctuation and attempt at debating is attrocious.

But who cares anyway? A stupid petty remark, followed by a couple of lols and smileys and you've won the arguement, eh?

u only see me on here at night as unlike u i work! as my grammar etc i type fast and shorthand! but ive seen plenty from u in the past! but im not surprised by yourself wagging school and not learning anything really have u! i mean u seem to have nothing better to do than stay on here all day if thats the only time u see me on here! very very sad little boy! uve reported a lot more than 2 people ive seen the comments u reported loads of spurs/utd fans the other day crying because they called arsenal names awwwwww! and u never reported anyone for being racist the other day! because hey werent racist comments were they thats y they havent been deleted!!

Lovely Portsmouth fans were still giving it the beans when they were 5-0 down!

Things are set up interestingly for the weekend, both Chelsea and United have hard away matches and Arsenal might struggle without Vermaelen against Birmingham, especially when you see it's Silvestre who's replacing him!

A question about Malouda's elbow, was it any worse than Gerrard's? Because I can't see anything being done about it really.

My predo: Race to be decided on the last day with Gooners prevailing with 86 points to Chavski's 85

"Also goes to show how much better we look without Anelka, who constantly slows down our play, and/or loses the ball."

He is having a rough time atm but pre christmas he was argubally our best player above even Drogba.

I gunna make an example of the Emirates game didnt think he lost the ball that many times and was a good link between the midfield and Drogba.

In christmas when we played Pompey at home and won 2-1 evrey 1 was saying that we missed him badly so lets not critisise him too much please.

That article about Arshavin saying his side don't have enough stars and aren't capable of winning the league must have been a hammer-blow to the Gunners. Such bad timing before the Champions League match with Barca. To make it even worse, that match could be Fabregas' "trial" for Barcelona and I can't imagine Wenger would be pleased with having his best player snapped out of his grasp. Dark days indeed if you're a goner (sorry, gooner).

Meanwhile, Abramovich has said Chelsea NEED to win the league.

And someone was saying the pressure was on United? The club that have won three on the bounce?

Aces.

Seeing as Abramovich has spent the last 7 years being as audible as a mute, can you provide a link to where he is quoted as saying Chelsea need to win the league?

Or, was it a journalist that said it, based on a conversation he had in a cafe with someone that may or may not have the ear of Roman but then chose to report it as fact?

Hi all, United fan here. Well done on last nights result and has done your goal difference a world of good.

So now if United win all their games we win the league.
If Chelsea win all their games, they win the league.
If we draw at OT and Arsenal win all their games then they win the league (albeit overcome the goal difference) then they win the league.
Its the business end to the season and its going to be plenty of key points to talk about between now and May. Good luck all, exciting times!

The result last night was to be expected, but it has really made things interesting. Personally hope Chelsea beat Man u at OT, then they will drop to third and we stand a good chance if Chelsea's form dips again.

Couple of assumptions and a bit of wishful thinking in there, don't you think.

Don't worry, we're all guilty of it. I think for the last few years at around this time, I have plotted Chelsea's course to success over the next few matches! :-)

One step at a time though. This weekend:-

Birmingham v Arsenal
Bolton v Man U
Chelsea v Villa

Tell me honestly how you think (not how you hope) those matches will turn out.

Could it be, ironically, that even though Chelsea are at home, they have the toughest game?

Great game, I was hoping for some goals to help our goal difference, and also for Big D to catch up on Rooney (who is vastly overrated this season - mostly by my Virgin housemate "Wayne will win us the world Cup").

As for Deco, would prefer to see him in the 3 more than Ballack, he's got the creativity that we lack with the loss of form of Joey.

Anyone else realise how good we were without Anelka?

Brilliant! We scored five goals against the Premier League's basket case, but was anyone watching the first half? We were very, very ordinary, but for David James demonstrating that charity really does begin at home were we about to witness the most appalling scoreless draw of the season?

I would be surprised if Chelsea supporters, however grateful for the win against Pompey really believe this is catalyst for an FA Cup, Premier League double.

Ironically we played some of our best football when the African players were absent during January, perhaps this tells us that Mikel, Kalou and Drogba weren't really missed and Anelka minus Drogba blossoms as the world class striker we all know he is, something for Ancelotti to ponder over the next couple of weeks.

Football is at times a funny game, we are still in the frame for two trophies, and must have a reasonable chance of winning both, however to be realistic, we have a growing injury list, some of our thirty year olds are legless after a long demanding season, and the John Terry saga has left an indelible scar on himself and the team. As the season slips away Ancelotti's body language and choice of substitutes is starting to resemble that of Avram Grant who knows only too well the pressure cooker atmosphere of Stamford Bridge.

Abramovitch expects trophies, although Ancelotti has stated his intention to stay at Chelsea, he is no fool and if none are forthcoming he wouldn't expect to be at Stamford Bridge next season. which brings us full circle, Jose Mourinho should never have been allowed to leave Chelsea.

If Abramovitch does see fit to indulge in yet another manager next season let's hope he is given the clout to build a team along Arsenal, Manchester United lines, a nucleus of world class key players blended with talented youngsters capable of physically standing up to a long premiership season.

In the mean time, Chelsea for the League and Cup double! Go you mighty blues!

Great result, though I must admit we do have a nasty run in. I think it's either Drogba or Anelka, you can not play the two together. Anelka was great earlier in the season playing as the front man, but playing out right is a waste of time. Maybe we could swap Drogba an Anelka around if Drogba's getting marked out of a game. But playing them together we really are a man short.
