Live - World Cup draw

I wouldn't describe it as the most magical occcasion on Earth. I would imagine England should qualify from almost any group with relative ease. I can't see them winning it though.

Brazil perhaps??

Hey Jonathan, guess you really enjoy the draw then? :-)

It's a rare event, sure, but "the most magical occasion on Earth"? I think not...<cheers>...

I reckon the worst draw England could get is if they are paired with France, Ivory Coast and the USA.

-------------------------

Don't believe the hype.... of all the African teams, Ghana is the strongest... and Nigeria is highly unpredictable.... Hence England should hope to avoid them as well....

Also England should hope to avoid the Aussies not because they have a strongly team/squad... but because they would be well up for it....

Red_Pillar - I thought about the Aussies, they would be as difficult as the USA in my opinion. Just after seeing USA at the Confederations Cup got me thinking they might just edge being the tougher draw.

On paper the USA is stonger than the Aussie... But being paired with the Aussie, would turn this into a grudge match.....

And as if England must avoid one team out of Africa... Its got to be Ghana..... followed by Ivory Coast and the unpredictable Nigeria (in fact you can plan to play them, cos you don't what team would turn up)....

We don't want the aussies... they could lose to every other team in the group 5-0 but would go home happy if they beat the Poms.

Spare a thought for me whilst the draw takes place.. For my shift at work starts tonight dead on 5 O' Clock! I can see myself coming down with a nasty bit of food poisoning at about 4.30.

Forget "when I was a little boy" chat:

The World Cup remains the most amazing, spectacular and magical sporting occasion in an age where money is playing a greater role in the sport it is completely refreshing to see 11 men battle it out with a nation's hopes resting on their shoulders and their being in the same team has nothing to do with transfers or any other similar transient factors.

Does anyone know if the fixture dates and times of kick off are also decided today? I want to know so I can book days off around England games at work. I know the competition will be fierce.

re: everyone moaning about the live feed starting.

I notice that your day is filled enought to post on a message board about it.

Personally I like it when we have these early start feeds, gives an epic feel to the occasion. I remember the champions league final one last season stated before most people
had breakfast.

Last time i may be able to watch the world cup before having to grow up properly. I think I am looking forward to it all the more as Wycombe are doing terribly.

Lets hope for an average draw, nothing to hard that we may go out but not to easy that we are uncompetitive when we go into the knockouts.

Come On England

Not being a ****, but is this really the best use of your time Stevo? I mean, FIVE HOURS of buildup before the DRAW to the world cup. Are you going to start a live commentary on the buildup to the group games tomorrow, minute by minute drips of information across the next 188 days?

What's the name for a World Cup upset? Worldcupset? Plenty of those to come surely!

But what I want most: the group of death, actually there could be two since both Portugal and France are strong, and so are Ivory Coast and Ghana...

Prediction regardless of draw: winners Spain, just too much quality and depth.

It's not too early for anything. Some of us are trying to kill the boredom so 'live' is better than... not live.

Stevo how about some predos?

| complain about this comment

posted Dec 4, 2009

By 'build up', do you really mean over 5 hours (!) of people attempting to predict a random process, and discussing what would then happen if these predictions were to come true - all of which will be completely invalidated as soon as the actual draw has taken place?

Has the BBC looked up the definition of news recentyl? I'm pretty certain it's reporting about event that are actually taking place, rather than discussing hypothetical situations?

What next, a fifteen hour build up to the next budget, where people can discuss the impact of the Chancellor suddenly hiking tax to, say, 98.4%, and how terrible it would be? (Because, it could happen, you know. So that surely makes it news.)

Slow news day, perhaps?

Nightmare - draw starts an hour earlier than I thought - so will be teaching Polish students about Research and Development in a Business English class instead of taking in the draw with a beer to celebrate the end of the week! Could they manage to spin the draw out to three hours? Come on FIFA - you can do it!

Why can't it just be some official and Trevor Brooking with a few balls in a bag? It could take five minutes. I really don't think any football fan cares about how the teams are drawn, just the end result.

When did the draw become this pointless, self-congratulatory circus?
