Wow. Knowledge clearly is good. Thankyou for the in-depth report.

My predictions are:

Jankovic vs Azarenka: Jankovic
Venus v Lena D: Venus
Sveta v Serena: I really don't know.

Azarenka's time is now so I reckon she might have the beating of JJ. Jelena didnt look so on form losing in straight sets last week to Kleybanova.
I think ED will beat Venus. I think Venus might be getting past her prime. Over the US hard court period she didnt have much in the tank. No form since wimbledon. Losing at wimbledon really set her back.
Sveta v Serena is a close one. I think Sveta might be better prepared than Serena and she recently won in Beijing. Im picking Sveta.

Venus may be enduring some of the most heinous form of her career, but she would have to be playing badly to lose to Lena. Remember, Venus wasn't playing great tennis in Stanford yet she still crushed Lena in about an hour. Lena just doesn't have the weapons to get through Venus nor does she have the defence if Venus bludgeons it.

No probs. It starts at 5pm Doha time, so I don't know whether that's 2 or 3pm here.

Good stuff Knowledge.

I am thinking:

Azarenka to win. JJ is not fully fit and didn't play well in Moscow.

Dementieva to win. Venus Williamses had a poor season and slipped well down the ranking. This could be V.Williamses swan song as a pro player.

Kuznetsova to win. The tightest match, but I have a feel, Kuznetsova could just about win the whole thing this year. Her form post USO has been good.

"This could be V.Williamses swan song as a pro player."

I think writing her obituary may be premature, but I agree her decline since Wimbledon has been marked.

Perhaps she has lost some of that hunger finally, after so long on the Tour. I actually don't thnk her form is near good enough to see her win this.

Last year when she won it her form had been ok going into it.

USO - QF
Stuttgart - SF
Moscow - 1st Rd (blip?)
Zurich - F

This year, her run in is nowehere near that form:

USO - 4th Rd
Tokyo - 2nd Rd (1st after a bye)
Beijing - 2nd Rd.

She was ranked No3 but those results meant she dropped to No7 for the Tour Champs.

I don't think she's done for Slams next year, but form-wise at this tournie I think she's going out the singles after RR stages. Still think they'll win the doubles however.

I also think Serena has the motivation for this one because she wants No1. I think we all now what can happen when she's motivated (no I don't mean she'll be threatening lines judges!).

I'm surprised so many people think Dementieva will win against Venus today. She hasn't beaten Vee since 04 and in their past two matches she has hit a total of eight winners.

========================
You're kidding, right? Serena doesn't give a toss about the number one - she just wants the Slams. If she cared about the number one, she would have committed herself to playing better over the summer rather than talking up her trashy 'memoir'.

slush

She has said that ending the year as No1 "would be cool". Not exactly fighting words I agree, but I think she feels like there is a point to prove and with only 155 points separating her from Dinara, that's close enough to give her that little push.

She has told everyone all year that she's "the true No1". I think she wants to prove that once and for all.

lagellerotumblero: The Ultimate attack: The Amakakeru Ryu no Hirameki! (U13908987)
Your right, I was, as I had to do 3 other things, whilst being nagged :( Hence why I made the mistakes, particually at the end as I got fed up with the way the screen ends up when typing, with the constant up and down thing, meaning you don't always see the mistakes. But tomorrow's edition, will be better first time :)

JJ held her vital first game of the second set.
So the pressure a little on Vika.

Vika is playing well.
Powerful service, good deep groundies and returns.

I was breathtaken by her poor performance against Clijsters in Toronto who I'm sure she would beat, and will do so, nine times out of ten.

Vika will serve for a 3-1 lead.
Should she prevail, an almost certain 160 points in the bag.

Ha ha, LMAO at the Vika would beat Clijsters 9/10 comment <laugh>

That would be the same Clijsters that beat both Williams' on her way to humbling Wozniaki in the final?

Good job Kim got that one win out of 10 in their first meeting then <laugh>

If Vika and Caro are the future of the WTA, women's tennis will become very bad indeed. Once players like the WS, Clijsters, Henin, Kuznetsova and Dementieva retire, we're screwed.

"I basically gave her everything," said Jankovic. "I beat myself. I was just a shadow of myself."

Where have I heard that before?

Ah yes, that´s what Jeremiah Jankovic always says when she loses .. and with the losses increasing, beginning to sound very familiar.
