alonso fee agreed

well done for being the first to report it, i am mixed, glad the negotiations are over, ABOSULUTELY GUTTED because alonso the man was a great guy to have at the club, a professional and the player just finished his best season and he will be hard to replace, we may have to change our system become more attacking.

Now just a question of how much? I hope madrid coughed up, but if rafa backed down a bit on the price it's understandable because this has been dragged on for ages.

Good luck to Alonso. He was one of the top passer in the prem. But now Cesc is the best passer in the prem. No debate cesc is the best.

also i read somewhere over the weekend that it was not a written transfer request but a verbal one because he had respect for the club abd wanted to leave the door open for a return. that could be seen as a good sign.

poulsen is a no-no! we will back rafa tho. he knows best

I'm going to jump into the liffey, holding a concrete block - I'm devastated - I never even seen it coming - There's no point in going on anymore without Xabi.

No. Most Liverpool fans acknowledge that he was a massive player for us.

my instincts say I should WUM, but all I can say is Rafa has received fairly large sum for Xabi, if he thinks Aqualini is the man then things aren't so bad.

Well, it was going to happen wasnt it, before the FC Lyn game tomorow. I dont think he will play now on Saturday at Anfield which is a shame.

I am gutted but before Liverpool, Alonso was relatively unknown and Rafa has made him the player he is now. Hope Rafa will bring in another excellent player. It might be a blessing in disguise (?). Aquilani have been reported to have "signed" and Silva is also a possibility, although Fergie is also interested. Game on!

No we're not plastic utd fans talking about Ronaldo, one day he was the best player in the world then when he leaves he's a 'free kick specialist' and not a big game player, at the end of the day Utd still haven't got anyone who would get in Liverpool's midfield.

With Alonso gone, Carrick would walk into your midfield ahead of Lucas.

Giggs was POTY and better than any of your wingers.

And what does it matter. You don't have any players who'd make our defence, and apart from Torres, you're basically Championship standard up front. laugh

No...Ronaldo is the best player in the world and brought loads to our team.

It was the Liverpool fans saying he was a one trick pony at United, now he is the best player in the world and was our whole team.

Get it right.

Yes he was once long ago, shame they decided to only recogise it officially way too late.

PS LFC had a winger get 12 leage goals and a few assists.

I suspect the real reason for his leaving is his personal desire to play in Spain. Wouldn't it be nice if, for once, someone would be candid and tell what REALLY happened. Maybe the player will tell us himself?

we all must remember that although Xabi was amazing last season. He did have 2 average seasons before that so there is no telling how he would have been next season and just accept that 30 million is the right price for him.

Its that fat Rafa fault so liverpool should not balme Xabi.

* He wanted Barry to replace Xabi

* He did not let Xabi go and see his new born child

SHAME RAFA YOU FAT MUPPET.
------------------------------------
I dont blame alonso for leaving but I dont blame rafa either. Rafa decided to go for barry because alonso's form was poor that season.

If the story about alonso not being allowed to the birth of his child is true so be it.

When we were involved in the mickey mouse super cup rafa's father died and rafa missed the funeral because his job came first.

He is entering his peak now. 2 years ago, he would have still had some inconsistencies in his game. 27-31 are the peak years of a midfielde's career.

I agree we've got a decent deal but Real will be getting him in the prime of his career. Hope Rafa gets Aquilani or Silva

Oh puhleeeeze. He got a sympathy vote, and you REALLY believe he actually WAS the POTY??? You need a reality check lad. Kuyt was better than him last season, and according to all of you plazzy gits, he's the worst player in the world EVER. doh You mancs crack me up, you really do. Total and utter dickheads the friggin lot of yer.

What's wrong? You seem a bit tetchy? Heard some bad news?

Regardless of what you think of Giggs, he'd walk into your left side.

So, seeing as my post was a response to someone saying none of our players would make your midfield, when clearly Giggs would, as would Carrick now Alonso's gone, do you really need to have a breakdown over such an innocuous comment?

Well yeh. But not tetchy over Xabi leaving, I was expecting that. But for you to state that Giggs was POTY and wear it as some sort of trophy really takes the biscuit.

I would have LOVED Giggs to have played for us in the past. He is the ONLY player I have ever coveted, but to believe that he actually WAS the POTY last season is beyond the pale (to quote your drunken arl git of a manager).

Big loss for Liverpool FC.

Xabi Alonso played in 43 matches last season, and despite only scoring 5 goals..he was one of the main reasons they challenged on all fronts last year (Premier League and Champions League). He was, arguably, their best and most consistent player last year..

Its not a wise thing to sell your BEST player from the previous season..
