Eriksson begins Notts County revolution

Forest fan here I think this is a great appointment for Notts and good for the City in general.

Sven has a great footballing CV and his high profile will help Notts County on their efforts to improve their current position (even if his high profile is sometimes due to his colourful antics)

good luck for the future Notts fans ok

He is only there for the money, spend some cash, bank some cash and when times get hard 12-18 months move on or revert to a part time role, with no reduction in pay ofcourse, and move on to pastures new.

His rep has diminished over the years, IMO.

As long as they stick with McParland they'll be ok. He was really good at Forest and will certainly be able to take County up the league.

I'm worried that Sven might actually be out of his depth at that level as he most likely wont be given the sort of money he's used to spending. That said if he has a lower league background maybe he will be ok!

Good luck to the Magpies on this one.

Let's not forget that Eriksson rarely lasts more than three years in any job. County will need much, much longer than that to achieve sustained success.

Whether he's there for the money or not is irrelevant. The bottom line is he has experience that can benefit Notts C. Look at Capello, he's getting an astronomical amount of money, but no-one is bothered about that at the moment because he is doing his job and getting results.

Having read Robbie Fowler's biography which included comments on Sven as manager, it will be interesting to see how his time there will develop. What will be the reaction of lower league players with an international manager? Will he inspire his charges or will the director of football role mean that he only has to show up once a month for his pay cheque?

Trying to think of a bigger name to join a lower league side. George Best at Dunstable Town comes to mind and Keegan at Fulham when they were in the third tier. Any others?

''most surprising move of the summer''
It's most surprising story in football for years, maybe since Tommy Lawton dropped down a div to play for us!!!!
I'm just looking forward to a season where I'm not worried about being relegated. And as long as there is progress, I think I will be happy. It's great being on the back pages and headline news and the funniest is bitter Forest fans trying to knock it.

Sven is just a mercenary whose ears prick up every time he hears the words 'Arab consortium'

This particular group seems like a rather optimistic bunch…they obviously like long term restoration projects…fools and their money…

Pleased to see that his pay will be based on results! But what a fantastic thing to happen to Notts! Unbelievable! And let's not forget that Sven started his career in the lower leagues in Sweden. I think his profile and the ambition of the new owners might help attract some decent players but lets hope they don't go silly with the wages....pay them what WE think they are worth and not what their agents think they are worth! YOU PIES!

In it for the money? What money??? This sounds like the bloke wants to "run" a football club. I expect he's earned enough money over the years not to have to work and this is a bit of a pet project. Sure, if it doesn't work he'll be off (with no severance) but let's give him a chance. Most people of his stature would not be humble enough to even try this. Good Luck to him and NC!

The consortium that are running the club will have offered Sven cash, trust me he is NOT doing this for the love of the game, the Mags but to further the name and rep of Sven.

Cash is like a drug when you get 15k you want £30k when you get 500K you want £1mil and so on,
Sven will live and party in London where the "beautiful people and Glitterati" are, and commute to Notts for the games.

I don't doubt this is a coup for the Mags and I wish them well, I just don't think that at this time, Sven is what you want, need or deserve""

As a Forest I thought this comment on the BBC gossip page was hilarious:

Eriksson is considering taking former Nottingham Forest boss David Platt to Notts County as part of his revolution.

Only bring in Platt if you want expensive failure laugh

Notts definitely need to stick with McParland and give him chance to build his own side.

Congratulations Nottsfans!
Being a swede living not far away from where Sven started his career I now that he loves the sport. Degerfors, the first club he managed, first as an understudy to Tord Grip, is a club not so different to Notts, I imagine. He will thrive at your club and the club will thrive with him.

He is a nice and intelligent man who thinks that positive vibes in the dressing room is the most important things to get a result on the pitch. With the backing of his good name and arabian billions he will have no problems finding the players he wants. I see you in Premier League in three years! ok

This appointment is genius. If you look at his duties it does not include managing the team. He will identify & recommend players, if the manager likes them he will negotiate the transfer (something which he is very experienced) and bring all the facilities, youth development and other areas of the club forward to a new level. He is overseeing all football activities across teh club and given his experience of working for top european clubs and England he will bring a lot of knowledge that Notts would not be able to get elsewhere. Also he has a lot of contacts who could be useful in acquiring young talented players for teh club or older players from higher divisions who would be happy to work with him. Very similar to Keegan's appointment at Fulham several years ago

I am trying not to laugh.

I am sure that Svens knowledge of L2 is second to none!

I also find it interesting that the Trust at Notts County were the ones that were against this takeover move - because they can see that the new investors can walk away at any time, leaving the club right up the swanny.

Notts County have a fair bit of brass for L2, true, but paticularly at that level, money guarentees nothing - just ask Shrewsbury and Bradford fans from their experience last year.

BTW - you have signed a real donkey in Graeme Lee - most City fans couldnt wait to get rid of him. He is brilliant in the air, but panics when the ball is anywhere ner him on the ground. I hope you enjoy the long ball stuff too, because he will continually try to launch it from the back. On the plus side for you lot though, he cant half hit a free kick.

I actually dont mind Notts County. You have had a woeful few years, and as the oldest club in the land, you deserve a bit of happiness.
I just hope that you dont start well on August 8th against us.

Role on the new season!

Of course they will have offered him cash... that is generally what happens when you have a job! The employer says "I would like you to do this job" and the employess sayd "ok. How much am I going to get paid as I am looking for £x".

Sven will also be a shareholder and on a results based incentive scheme. He is going to overhaul teh club and hopefully get them up teh leagues and bring some success to Notts County

richmagpies

Sven has indicated by his past actions he is only interested in money

example

When he parted company with England did he:-

a go out and find another job?

or B

did he have offers that he considered and rejected
or

C did he go on holiday for almost 2 years till the FA stopped paying his wages, & then take a job??

You choose??

Since leaving club football to take on England, what has Sven achieved? won? other than contracts that were lucrative to Sven.

I love football and think the Mags deserve bette than a washed up ex International Manager who almost 10+ years ago had a half decent club managers CV.

If I don´t remember completely wrong the english press demanded that England must have a english manager, well that happend and what a success it was..eeehhh!!! You must realise that what makes the PL the best league in the world are NOT the british players/managers, it´s the foreigners,,,so pls give Sven some time and I can assure you Notts C will be in the Championship sooner than later.

Be warned County fans, getting promotion out of league 2 will be far from guarenteed with the money and sven. 2 reasons.

1) League 2 is a very competitive league. Having the best players guarentees nothing.

2) Now that County have money and a big name in charge, it's gonna pump up opposition more to beat you.

I don't honestly think this is the wisest appointment.

Good luck anyway. Just hold of one season while we catch you up again. winkeye

Hard to see what he can actually do? His experience is with major European teams and International squads that are predominantly filled with top league players. Even when manging internationally his experience with 'up and coming' players is unlikely to have gone significantly beyond Under 21's.

I don't think anyone playing at England Under 21 level would consider Notts County and I think Mexican Under 21's would find it borderline impossible to get a work permit.

Notts C want the best scouts and someone who can create a new team generation because you can't really 'buy' your way out of League Two. Anyone genuinely promising (potentially Prem one day) tends to get snapped up too quickly to contribute to a League2 team significantly, and older, formally great players are flops four times out of five.

I suspect this is solely a PR excercise to give the club some weight and credance. Despite the occassional career flop, Erikkson is a big name in World football and is a respected club manager on the continent. Eriksson's involvement may secure some extra interest and therefore advertising, may earn Notts County a few friendlies against heavyweight opposition and will give the team a status above other League Two teams regardless of success.

according to the BBC

Eriksson will start his role with immediate effect, will also be a shareholder and his remuneration will be determined by the success of the team.

The Swede will be responsible for transfer negotiations and scouting, health, fitness and development of players, training facilities, the youth academy and establishing community and overseas links.

He joins with his TEAM (numbers unspecified but no doubt the press conference will reveal all)

he will be traveling and will earn by wages as well as profits as he is a shareholder, he will travel ( and that wont be on economy or Easyjet).

Maybe in the spirit of openness that now abounds like MP's he will publish his expenses on the web for fans to view??( I doubt it)

I wish you well as I said in earlier posts I think the Mags deserve better, but one thing Sven has done already for you is raise the profile, IE when did the Mags last have this many people discussing the club??
