Is it me or did Lyon just sell their prize asset cheaply? I mean, 30M is a lot, but Benzema is class - I would have thought Lyon could have got 40-45M, considering it's public knowledge that Madrid have a 800M loan available.

Makes me wonder if United has the drawing power they did--Tevez, Ronaldo gone, Benzema (clearly a target) gone, Ribery (also a target) probably signing for Madrid. Berbatov and Rooney better stay fit.

Apparently, we did make a offer for him and Benzema was happy to come to OT but Real made a better offer to Lyon. This is from Graham Hunter.

gignac was the form forward in the french league last season, not benzema. apparently united are after him for just 11 million, a much better piece of buisness IMO.

there must be some other big movement if Benzema goes to Real.
Villa, Silva and Eto'o are still be mentioned, but players like Gignac could do a job and i reckon Gudjohnsen could do a job too. he would probably be under 10 mil and has Prem experience and a good finish.

Real will surely have a clear out and so a few dutch players may be on the cheap. i'd like to see Robben at Anfield but his injuries are a concern plus he is also a little greedy with the ball.

it's going to be interesting to see who goes where, but Real could be serious threat in the CL now, obviously if the new players gel quickly.

it does make it interesting as well as to who united will sign or go for. surely alic has options but he is keeping them very closely to his chest.

Is it me or are lesser clubs like Lyon and Bayern Munich not interested in selling there big stars to Premier League clubs and are now willing too sell too any club that isn't in the PL.

After all Two English clubs in the names of MUFC and CFC have been interested in Benzima for a few years now.

I'm gutted.. Benzema is one a the few huge talented players i was desperate for United to sign, considering he's only 21 makes him even more of a great signing.

I was hoping he'd choose United over Madrid for the reasons of playing for a club that will improve him as a player and gurantee first team football rather than playing for a club like Madrid who will get rid of him once another era of 'Galacticos' is needed.

Still in some ways confused as to why we're signing another striker. Surely we will end up just like last season where 1 player will be unhappy he's not playing.

Personally i'd shift rooney into his central position with berbatov, buy a left winger, and then have macheda/wellbeck as backup.

Buying a huge name as a centre forward i fell just causes problems, perhaps playerslike gudjonsen/owen could be an OK move as they won't expect to start yet are there as back up.

Combined 148million for Kak, Ronaldo and Raul Albiol. I didn't hear about Albiol, but preumably:
Kak: 56million
Ronaldo: 80million
so
Raul Albiol: just 12million? Doesn't sound right...

Just like Huntelar, Owen, Van der Vart etc.

Good luck to benzema, hope he SURVIVES the black hole called Madrid. Too Bad he's not winning anything as long as Pep and Barca are there

Benzema would have been a quality signing for United but they just need to move on.

How about either Sneijder or van der Vaart from the Real Madrid clear-out sale? Sneijder could go some way to replacing the (irreplaceable) Scholes. Admittedly, van der Vaart may not be good enough for United, and they already have Rooney to play behind a front man...

that's a big big blow guys, but this is Manchester united, and i always believe in Fergie so whatever happens we will still be up there. On paper real looks good but remember when they had the original Galacticos and i mean u cant compare them one on one to the new ones.. They didnt win anything for a few season. So i wont be too worried. they might sell shirts but i cant see them really winning that much. United forever

Personally, I'd try to get Alonso now at all costs. Or Yaya Toure, but that ain't happening. Then:
Casillas
Ramos Albiol Pepe Heinze
X.Alonso Diarra (either one)
Ronaldo Kaka Ribery
Benzema

Liverpool play something similar, but Kuyt's tracking back on the wing may prove a crucial difference, especially with Sergio Ramos being such an attacking RB.

He is obviously highly rated, though unproven at the highest level. However, he has always said he wanted to play for Real since he was a kid. Do United really need another want away star in two years?

I like the conspiracy theory mentioned earlier about Lyon and Bayern not being willing to sell to Premiership clubs. Let's develop that...I reckon Platinin has called some secret meetings with Chairmen from around Europe and they have formed an anti-Premiership cabal...

The big problem for United is that they were demolished in the CL final. It was obvious they weren't up to the task and with Ronaldo out they lose even more appeal for the stars - whereas Real Madrid is now (again) the team everybody wants to be a part of.

If ManU try to sign someone it should be Robben as he could deliver the best price/performance ratio (if he stays healthy).

Oh that is just pathetic. First we get Valencia and now we can't get Benzema? Pathetic. SAF better buy someone who is actually good soon. Though if Valencia cost 17m that could well cost us upwards of 40m just to get a merely good player.

Gutted if he goes 2 Real without Fergie even making an offer or giving them some competition he was one of our main priorities and a striker that is actually available unlike others that have been linked with us or Villa who's set to stay in Spain.
