Oh god I hope not. We don't want to start playing hoof ball to elbows doh Oh please no, that would be a catastrophe. Afterall, he only knows how to play one way....and thats with his elbows! laugh

Typical Arsenal numpty reaction. No idea about the subject. He has scored more than Carlton Cole, Emile Heskey, Wayne Rooney, Gabriel Agbonlahor, Jermaine Defoe and Darren Bent. Yet that still isn't enough for you.

The England team needs someone who will work their socks off and pressure defenders, non stop for 90 minutes.

I'd rather much have Crouch in there than him. You need more than just "running your socks off non stop" for 90 minutes to play for England. You need some technical ability, something that elbows doesn't have. You could even see it in players like Downing and Lennon (who without his pace would be an awful player) that they struggle to fit in with better players than them who play technical football. What a JOKE that would be to have elbows in the England team.

Here's hoping Kevin Davies a.k.a Elbows never ever ever plays for England!!! smiley

So you need some technical ability? I have just explained to you that Davies has scored as many as Crouch this season. That shows the guy has ability. Are you telling me that Carlton Cole and Emile Heskey are better than Davies?

Capello said that he would pick players based on form, not on their name. Well, Davies is showing better form than both Heskey and Cole.

Thankfully, a lot of England fans are man enough to admit that Davies deserves a chance. You are probably bitter, just like Wenger used to be.

Actually, Crouch has 15 goals, thats more than Davies, who has 10! And I never implied that Heskey and C.Cole are better than Davies. I feel that offer way more than elbows does.

I'm not bitter about anything. I just don't want to see Davies in the ENGLAND set-up as it would be an embarrassment. But hey, if he continues his form and Capello does call him up, then I wish the guy good luck.

He'll definitely need it thats for sure!

Kevin Davies is never on form. He scores a goal once in a blue moon and the media jumps in 'HES ON FIRE!'. Out of all those in your list, on Davies has been fit all season long. And to score as little as he has just give you an indication of his scoring pedigree.

I.E. He doesnt have any.

Give Kevin Davies a chance and he won't let you down. He will run his socks off, OK he may not score but so what? There are plenty of goalscorers around him. Main thing, if he is needed he will do the job. If he plays just get off his back.

Beckham is a huge credit to himself. He always puts in 110% and is just quality. Yes he does the showbiz stuff, but that's partly also to the demand from some of the fans who love to see the brand anyway. At least he always tries to do his best even at such a late stage of his career and is committed. Should be an example to young footballers out there, along with the likes of Giggs, Maldini, etc.

No scoring pedigree? 11 in 29 games this season isn't bad, considering we don't score that many.

Not exactly 'once in a blue moon'.

Add on top of that, his game is not just about scoring, and you look rather silly.

Heskey and Cole get chance after chance for England. It's about time Kevin Davies was given one.

Kevin Davies is one of the most underated players in the league. He can be described as very competitive, but is also suprisingly skillful and a great linking player. Davies is almost unstoppable in the air, with similar aerial prowess to Vidic and Terry.

I would describe Davies as a 'poor mans Shearer', with very similar attributes, but without Shearers deadly finishing.

Just got back from the game, great atmosphere once again, the players all played very well. Everyone gave Beckham a standing ovation when he went up to take a corner, and he grabbed a nice assist for the 2nd goal, which prompted the crowd to do a 6 minute Mexican Wave cool

Anyone else feel that the lack of cover at centre back and the absence of any defensively sound right backs should lead to Capello sounding out Carragher. He would be a great player to have in the squad for the world cup and has bags of champions league experience. Surely, he would jump at the chance of being involved in South Africa?

So glad to see England winning in an entertaining style for a change. It annoys me when people say 'it was only Slovakia'; that doesn't matter. England were great.

They had a high tempo, they kept the ball well, and passed with attacking purpose. What impressed me most though was the movement off the ball going forward, which under McClaren, England severely lacked.

One little worry was how open England left themselves to the counter atack at times, but apart from that little niggle, and of course the injuries to the strikers, it was a grat night for England.

PS. as for the new kit, I think its smart! Very classy, and even though i was a bit shocked at first, it has grown on me big time, can't wait to get my own. 50 quid is a complete joke though!

Good England performance, more of the same against Ukraine on Wednesday and oh gawd not Kevin Davis!! He's everything but an international player. You need 11 men on the field for 90 minutes when it comes to international games, I reckon he'll be red carded within 10 minutes of playing playing for England just due to the fact that non-English referees take dim view to his kind of style. If you take the rough hustle & bustle out of his game, he's got nothing left...please not him.

Another good performance from England to disprove all those critics who said Capello was the wrong choice and that Beckham is ****. Am I wrong or does Downing always fail to produce the goods for England? Still I suppose we should give him a chance, it's taken Gerrard long enough to show what he's capable at international level. Upson looked a bit dodgy too...

109 caps for Beckham is a joke. Bobby Moore's 108 still betters that for time time spent playing on the pitch.
Apart from that Bobby lifted the World Cup. The enduring memory I have of Beckham is being sent off for kicking an apponent in the World Cup taunament. He's not fit to clean Moore's boots. Time he and his ego were dumped.

I thought his performace was good yesterday, if he plays on wednesday and performs you idiots will still have something bad to say about him.

Capello picked him and played him, every football fan will have more respect for him considering how many trophies he has won in his time than you people on here that moan about Beckham. Sitting in front of you cpu or tv and thinking you know more about football than Capello.

if people don't want people making negative comments about beckham then you really shouldn't post comments like beckham "great" and "proves the critics wrong" for grabbing an assist or two against the dog and duck, sorry, slovakia. i've just got a subtle feeling that ukraine, or certainly the teams we need to be beating at the sharp end of tournament might actually try and mark beckham, not just let him wander off into space to give him plenty of time to put a ball over without pressure

Lets talk football and not knock personality. DB is here to stay so get over it.He was fitter and better last night than he has been for a while. Playing for AC Milan has obviously revitalised him and fittened him up. As Chris Waddle remarked last night, " why did DB ever go to LA?". As quick as Lennon is, his crossing the ball his still inaccurate. Of course Ukraine will be tougher. England is lacking in centre-forwards, last nights injuries proved that. Capello has to really study the clubs and performances to see who is elligible and more important good enough. Any ideas for new blood? Trouble is it's a bit late for experimentation with so many crucial games coming up. Though WR was excellent.

I went to this game and England were GOOD! "the dog and duck" are top of their qualifying group BTW and played as well as they were allowedto play. Several good features. ALL England players pressured the ball, when Slovakia had possession. Each one in possession looked for a positive ball, but played a safe one if it wasn't on. Each one played to his limitations, but up to his strengths. I counted 6 passes in the whole game that were "hoofed" with no apparent intended recipient and 4 of those were by Slovakia. We mixeed up long PASSES with short ones and the tempo was generally good. I thought the first 20 minutes were excellent and as good as anything I have seen on tv from any international side for years. Overall we were excellent for 50% of this game, pretty good for another 30% and ok with a couple of individual errors for the other bit. I am now checking the website for tickets for Weds and for the first time in ages can't wait!!!

It is great to see a set of new, young and full of potenial england players that can deliever. We have see this over the past few games and yesterdays performance was great. The link up play between Gerrard and Rooney was excellent and hopefully we can master this for the remianing games on the road to the world cup and the world cup(almost qualifyed....). People like Cole, Upson and Lennon(who had a average game) can be pleased with there performances in the premier league. It was such a pity that Cole was injuryed as i see alot in him for the future.

Capello has mastered the England attack but i think the defence and the Barry/Lampard partnership needs to be mastered as there were a few minor shakey moments.....apart from that this was a England team that can fully deleiver for more challenging matches in the future

Im not part of the group that wants Beckham to be made King of England but the facts cant be denied. Beckham is a better player than Lennon and Wright-Philips. The number of morans who are actually criticising Beckham for getting only one assist is insane, apparently because its Beckham hes needs to get 5 assist to match Lennons stunning performance- Lennon is sooo quick, hes amazin, he runs at defenders, so what, hes adds nothing to Englands game!! Beckham got more assists for England in 45mins than Lennon has his whole international career! How theres an argument over Beckhams selection when Crouch racks up having done nothing for his club is beyond me. I just dont understand why Beckham has to $h1t a miracle everytime he comes on he pitch to make his performance "acceptable".
I thought England though were very good yesterday, not at the top our game yet but thats what freindlies are for.
predict: England 3-Ukraine 0.

It's nice to see that when a manager publicily criticises a player's unruly behavior, allbeit subtly, the player responds with a model performance. Perhaps Ferguson and Wenger could learn from that rather than blindly condoning it by claiming not to have seen it or refusing to even acknowledge it.

Capello has certainly got us going in the right direction but I still find it hard to understand what he sees in some of the players he selects.

I've never considered Crouch worthy of a place. Yes he's scored a few goals but none of them have been against the top international teams. Numerous attacks break down because he seems incapable of jumping without leaning on someone's shoulder.

Lennon is all gloss and no substance. Yes, he can run like the wind, but 99% of the time there is nothing at the end of it. For Tottenham as last night, plenty of runs but the final ball is rubbish.

Can you belive that Downing is still there. Totally out of his depth.

So Beckham is playing down the cap record.

So he should. This is not an achievement that is in any way comparable to those of Bobby Moore and Bobby Charlton. Their caps were all for full matches. No 5 minute cameos for them. No coming off with a little pain because they could be replaced with a substitute. They earned their caps.

The way caps were dished out during Erriksons reign the award of a cap was totally devalued.

Caps should only be awarded to players who complete at least 75 minutes of a game unless they are forced off earlier through real injury. Many of Beckham's caps have been gained for 15 minutes or less. No cap should be awarded if a player is sent off.
