I think an inter-continental competition would be more exciting and would certainly attract more audiences!

The general idea is that we have a Continental XI of players e.g. Europe would have Ronaldo, Torres etc. The Americas would have Messi, Kaka etc. Africa would have Drogba, Essien, Adebayor etc.

The timings would be difficult to work out and we probaly wouldn't get everyone to agree on the idea but you know you would love to see a team of Kaka, Messi, Ronaldinho, Tevez, Riquelme, Robinho etc.

Man Utd - champions of england, europe and now the world, has a nice ring to it :p. it doesnt matter who man utd beat in this competition because the teams in it all earned the rite to play.
also the idea of having continental teams sounds really good but as you pointed out it would be difficult to organise such an event but if it did get the go ahead most would agree that the americas and europe would dominate. top club teams like man utd, barca, liverpool, chelsea all contain players who are considered world class, or at least playing for their contries so maybe a tournament with the best club teams may be better. stan collymore suggested this idea during the match and it did sound like a good idea

Never happen!
Cheesiz, it's hard enough to get managers to let their players go to play in International matches, there is no way in Hell they would sanction such a pointless exercise.

Maybe Quito were not the best team on the planet to say the least, but I can say for sure we are champions of england, champions of europe, champions of the world. Surely the team that has this little collection of trophys is the best team in the world. Trophies dont lie winkeye

This competition will always be a show piece game/competition similar to the Community Shield and Uefa Super Cup, nice to have but has no real relevance.

I'm glad we won, and watching the games it does seem like it has helped our play and confidence, some of our passing (although against weak opponents) has been great, especially Anderson.

However much FIFA try to do to make this the No.1 club competition, purely because of the financial power of the clubs from Europe, The Champions League will always be the most prestigious competition to win at club level.

Bluereed - You do realise you are p*ssing in the wind trying to wind up Man U fans. We are so far beyond that having literally nothing to prove. So once more the facts:

Manchester United - Champions of England
Manchester United - Champions of Europe
Manchester United - Champions of the world

Hurts bad doesn't it!

Now what exactly is is it you are trying to say?

devil
Many bitter and envious ABUs are frantically trying to dream up reasons to denigrate our success, with varying degrees of desperation.
Rather than respond to these efforts individually, I shall here put forth the only response necessary:

MANCHESTER UNITED:

CHAMPIONS OF ENGLAND.
CHAMPIONS OF EUROPE.
CHAMPIONS OF THE WORLD.

'Nuff said!

United can make up for a poor start in the league by exploiting the draws by the clubs above them.

Berbatov must find form and the Tevez situation needs sorting out.

Okay, at the moment, a lot of people may not take this competition seriously and may have seen this trip as pointless. However, that is Man United's fault and have to go there on the orders of FIFA to represent the champions of Europe. As this has happened, Man Utd may as well make the most of it an try and win it. After all any team is going to play against the opposition put in front of them.

I'm sure all the 'pointless' and 'waste of time / effort / a trip' was said about the World Cup in 1930, the European Championships in 1960, and I'm sure for the European Cup in the early 50s, when English teams didn't bother with it for the first three years. I know Real Madrid had a great team in the 50s and early 60s, but it was probaly also down to the lack of interest then that helped them win the first 5 tournaments.

Well done United. They did well with 9 men. If only Ronaldo had put himself out and run around a bit, instead of looking disinterested, who knows what the score would have been??

everything you win adds to a winning mentality, as an Albion fan I would love to win any sort of Trophy, never mind the World Championship!!! You might have the quietiest (home) fans around (outsung by 2000 baggies even when 4-0 up) but you are the best team uin the world.

I just think its nice to be able to call ourselves World Champions! Perhaps one day this competition could become as big in stature as the Champs League. I guess it can only help with teams such as United, and before us AC Milan winning this trophy.

Same as it ever was, violence disfigures Man U play - if that's football you're welcome to it. All the way from Estudiantes to Vidic via Rooney - sickening

I'm getting more impressed with Berba's performances but I think Tevez gives us more.

_______________________

I agree and disagree.
Berbatov's performances have been improving, but i think he's effected our teams attacking play cos he slows it down. Hence why we haven't scored in quite a few games this season when he's started. Just my opinion. Tevez is a better all round player than Berbatov will ever be. Berbatov lacks pace, and i think you have to be quick to suit United's attacking flair. Berbatov does have class, however, Tevez should be starting week in week out with Rooney, and having Berbatov on the bench isn't a bad thing. Saying this though, Rooney, Tevez (if we eventually sign him), and Berbatov will and have all been around the 30 million mark or under. So which one to keep on the bench is tough. But as ive said already, i believe it should be Rooney and Tevez starting. smiley

United deserve the tag of official FIFA World Champions. They beat the best in Europe last year and this year won not an unofficial intercontinental title, as they did in 1999, but the official title. For once I saw an English team prepare well for this competition and go there and treat it with the seriousness the Latin American and Italian clubs showed in this and its forerunner, the unofficial intercontinental title. I am sure they can replace Vidic even though he is one of the best centrebacks around. Remember Utd reached the final of the CL without him last year since he was injured in the first half of the first leg against Roma and did not play until the final. In the meantime they offered a defensive masterclass against Barcelona in both legs of the semifinal with Wes Brown accompanying Ferdinand. Not sure what's happened to Brown but Johnny Evans is another option and he always looks good.
