Berbatov is a true striker, Rooney and Tevez are not. Don't get me wrong, I think both Tevez and Rooney are fantastic! They are both work horses, but we need a player who plays in the box. At the moment, I think that Tevez is superior to Rooney. I know Rooney is just recovering from illness but still. I am just so happy that United have gone out and signed a classic striker of such quality. I just hope that Berba's attitude will not cause any problems... to be honest though, with Sir Alex at the helm, I think that Berba will be on his best behavior! Glory Glory Man United!!

Hope he brings the much needed goal threat we lack at the minute and more so helps bring wayne rooney along too. World class talent for sure but at his age he needs guidance so lets hope this is the start of something special!

Personally, I feel we lack something in midfield. This was highlighted against Zenit most recently and I think when we play organised teams with a good midfield we always struggle to break them down.

Iv already seen enough of Nani to get rid of him. Im sorry but id rather have Park playing ahead of him. No assists, no crosses, constantly loses possesion cheaply. His got no game!

Sell him and sign david silva - the kid is a genius, able to pass, dribble, shoot, play anywhere across midfield and attack.

The other play who I think would complete United is Diego. What a player! He plays with responsibility and balls. Techinically assured (his brazillian after all) and would be frigtening along side Anderson.

Afterall, Scholes is reaching his twilight, Hargreaves needs new knees, Carrick wont improve any more and whilst Fletcher is exceeding himself (long may it continue) you wont catch opponents losing sleep over him.

Berbatov solves one problem, but I think the midfield issue remains unanswered. Dont think about Champions League without it being addressed.

Ronaldo, Rooney and Tevez will rotate behind Berbatov. I would go for Carrick and Hargreaves in Midfield to ensure our team maitained balance between defence and attack.
Scholes has been a great player for us but maybe this is the season where he starts to be fazed out, after all its no good in signing £35m worth of CM in their prime, only to bench one in favour of Scholes, who even the most loyal of fan must admit, is not the force he once was.
Scholes still has a big part to play but now he and Giggs should be used sparingly.

Great news for Manchester United. Brings many positives.

Finally we have a player to match the aerial presence of Adebayor and Drogba. Ron is good in the air but he's a winger at the end of the day.

Rooney will be able to play as second striker now, which is great news for both United and England.

I'm struggling to figure out what sort of formation we will play though...We can't have three strikers playing all at once. I think Fergie's going to play 4-4-2...

Im sorry but carrick and hargreaves dont come anywhere close to Paul Scholes. Lets look back the CL semi against Barca and final against Chelski - Scholes was the best midfielder on the pitch. Total genius and I think united have taken him for granted by not finding adequate replacement for his ageing legs.

Anderson is the real deal but his still a kid. Lets bring in another quality midfielder so you can afford to drop Scholes without droping the quality levels which im afraid hargreaves (can he be counted on to ever play!) and carrick cannot muster against the top teams.

With Possebon emerging id sell one of them and bring in someone creative who can work the midfield like scholes or deco.

As a united fan i am delighted we have got Berbatov and surely we have the most awesome attacking players assembled eva in 1 team, perhaps the premiership has eva seen, no team can bost the talents of Ronaldo, Berbatov, Rooney, Tevez that is an incredible quartet, not to mention the sure rise to the for front of Nani and Anderson this season.

Scholes Carrick

Ronaldo Rooney Tevez

Berbatov

Bench:
Nani
Anderson
Hargreaves
Giggs
Neville

Surely the strongest squad Sir Alex has ever Assembled.

Secondly chuckles at chelsea, Outbidded by Man City, well done City though u have a strong looking squad and now surely can compete with Arsenal and Liverpool for 3rd/4th spot.

In addition i am also glad Real Madrid got a bit of their owm medicine, no Ronaldo and no Robinho lol.

And finally glad to hear Torres is injured for the united game, and Gerrard a doubt too. Riera, Diog who????? Liverpool continue to and always will live in the shadow of the true mighty reds.

Good day for united all round, surely nobody can stop us this year, Glory Glory Man united

Soccerspeare

Carrick has great vision and passing ability, close to the level of Scholes. He doesn't score many goals but with the attacking quartet we have, hopefully it won't matter too much, although I'd like to see goals from all over the pitch.
Hargreaves has great intensity and work-rate and is a good tackler. He can also run with the ball and is by far the closest thing to Keane in his prime, that we have seen in recent seasons, admittedly not quite as good.

The formation I suggested is very attack-minded. To maintain any sort of balance we need Carrick and Hargreaves- our two most defensively minded midfielders (although they both have the ability to contribute to attacks).

The only way to accomodate Scholes is to play a 4-4-2, which means dropping Rooney or Tevez and Hargreaves or Carrick (probably Rooney) in favour of Nani or Giggs, which I don't see as a great improvement. Or playing 4-3-3 and dropping Rooney or Tevez and having the other playing on the wing.
If Rooney continues to play on the wing he will prove to be a spectacular failure. When played in his best position he is a world-beater, when played out of position he is average.

I think having Berbatov in the team will help Rooney play more consistently. Too often in the past few seasons has he been played out of position. Sir Alex has said himself that Rooney needs to start playing his natural position, and with Berbie playing up front now I think we may see the 'magic' Rooney we all witnessed at Euro 2004.

Awesome! I´ve listened to tactically clueless people go on all summer about Huntelaar but we have signed a rare type of striker that is a top finisher while also linking up with the teams play. Along with Benzema, Eto´o and adebayor I don´t think anyone could fill the role we needed which is not so much a finisher as someone who could hold the line and let the team play develop further up the pitch.

Pesonsally I think the media will get on Berba´s back. He more than likely won´t be getting all the goals for us but watch as players like Rooney, Ronny, Tevez and Nani can rush into the box with someone to play off.

It´s been said before (when RVN, Rooney, Smith and Saha were all here9 that ´this is our strongest front 4´but in terms of individual ability there´s no comparing with this. Whether its as effective as the 4 of ´99 remains to be seen but here´s hoping.

That said I would urge a bit of caution to united fans about the arrogance that clearly stems throughout our forum: you need look no further than last season at Barca and their ´fantastic four´ or the Galacticos to see how what should be a case of invincibility often doesn´t turn out as such. While I don´t think it will happen with United we were wrong 5 seasons ago when Fergie called it his best squad since ´99 and we went through such a bad spell people widely called for SAF´s head.

We haven´t won anything yet.

You have to laugh at City. OK they stole from Cheslea which makes me smile but on the news all day it was about Mark hughes saying a bid was accepted and he was meeting with Berbatov then next thing you know Sky sports news is hammered with Man city fans gloating and mocking us.

All of a sudden though Berbatov is spotted with Ferguson and around United/Carrington and Huges gets stood up saying he can't get to speak to him. Classic Ferguson, classic.

Who honestly believes any top player would join City over United? You guys offered Ronaldinho £200,000 a week but he went to a big club, Milan and Robinho only came as Real would not sell to Chelski. He wanted to link up with big Phil ideally. But still good steal all the same, excellent. Just know your place and know you can't rob our targets.

Man United are spending tens of millions of pounds to buy the league again just like last year.

I know that one fool would come with the stupid reason that Man United "earn" the money they spend, unlike Chelsea, Man City, etc. This is the most idiotic explanation I have heard in the last 10 years. A club that is 750 million Pounds in debts does not start earning their money until they have paid off the last Pence of their debts; it is only then that they can be said to start earning their money.

If the Glazers refused to have Berbatov signed, and used the 30.75 million pounds to service debts, their debts would drop down to about 720 million excluding interests. But some deluded fans of the team always come up with these over-flogged reason of "earning their money."

Well, Man United, eventually will need help from the Steve Bennetts to salvage some points in matches in the course of this season despite spending millions now.

We were still winning big trophies and up amongst the best in the world before the Glazers came.If anything, the Glazers have weakened the club with this debt

=========================

You´re correct in saying that United spend a lot but you fail to appreciate that they earn a huge sum from transfers as well. I´m not sure what the deals involving Saha and Campbell involve but United have a net transfer expenditure of under 80m since the summer of 2004.

Considering their respctive success against teams who have larger deficits such as Chelsea, Real, Inter and Liverpool that is a very respectable amount. 5 summers and an average of 15m a season, in which Fergie has had to completely rebuild his squad.

Thus IMO they do earn the right to spend a lot if they make a lot from selling players.
