Lovely - does anybody know anything! No, is the simple answer.

I phoned Monday to see what was what, but was told that the earliest they'd announce availability etc would be today - maybe.

I'm glad I'm not alone at wondering where the communication had gone to. Maybe they're all on hols. Maybe there is no Communications Director, maybe they just can't communicate properly.

Think about it. I had to ring the Council to find out that a Park n Ride scheme was originally scheduled, but this of course depended on the slip road being built. Now, I have no idea whether the club had any input into all of this, but I find it really strange that something as fundamental to them as this, does not appear to have been mentioned on the website. Even if they had nothing whatsoever to do with this, then they would at the very least be aware of the problems I mentioned yesterday and should at the very least have kept people advised. So, if on a fundamental point such as this they are unable to communicate (even if it's to tell us they themselves don't know), then it should not come as no surprise to see such p*** poor communication about the Bilbao game.

It's nice to see the team continue to do the biz on the pitch though.

Seems like they may have a few teething problems with the ticketing system if you ask me. Still not a reason to not communicate the fact though.

Teething problems - I understand. What I don't understand is the club's failure to communicate with the fans (the people that pay their wages) on an ongoing basis.

They need someone senior enough - with enough commercial savvy and business acumen - to talk openly and frankly about the issues and at least provide some guidance on what is going on. I think the media manager does a good job but is obviously constrained on what he can/cannot say and is forced to take the flak from the fans. The club needs a proper marketing director or communications director and soon.

I always think it's like dealing with a communist government interacting with Col U. They tell you what they want, when they want and you better like it and don't even dare to question the party line comrades.

Spot on swcolu. The very worst thing is to keep mum and hope. A better approach is to at the very least keep people abreast with what's going on.

Everybody understands teething problems. All companies have them, footie clubs as well. Openness is a much better option and nobody will think the worst for it. Keep it under wraps and you're almost inviting criticism.

Anyway, GW must be pleased with progress to date - I am.

C'mon the U's

There is a big problem with the ticketing system I understand, I heard a rumour that the game may be called off soon if they can't fix it, and without a safety certificate we won't be playing Huddersfield at the WHCS (the C stands for corporate not community).

The website said on Monday to await further news on Monday and Tuesday, but here we are near to close of play on Wednesday and we've heard nothing more.

I can't see this happening to be honest. What a shame if it is called off, I was really looking forward to it.

Although I follow Barnet my Spanish team are Bilbao on account of parents being born there.

If me son and I turn up in our Bilbao shirts and can't find an 'away' end will we be okay sitting amongst 'U' fans?

Can't believe it's my old buddy Bilbao! I'll give you a call tomorrow just to check this out and if you're who I think you are we can all go together. Then you'll know who woodygee is <biggrin>.

Well underhillslope. I phoned my old buddy and he's not you. He lives between Whetstone & Barnet and I wrongly assumed that it must be him. Strange coincidence nevertheless to have two families with Bilbao connections so close to each other.

Never mind. I'm sure we'll all be pleased to see you at the new stadium assuming our guys ever get their act together and finalise the ticketing arrangements. To date the prospect of this friendly going ahead doesn't look too encouraging. Anyway, fingers crossed!

Full ticket details now on the website. What's all the fuss about? In Feb 1971 we all got back to North Station from the Rochdale Cup tie on the chartered train in the early hours of the Sunday morning, and the club still managed to get 11000 fans packed into Layer Road the following night for the replay, compared to which the logistics of the Bilbao game are a stroll in the park!

Just got back from getting my ticket. One Lady serving and recording all sales with a pencil in a notebook. The high-tech age has finally reached good old Col U.

The queue is growing............

------------------------------------

Woodygee there is a group of families from Bilbao in the Barnet area as a number of basque children came to live here when they were refugeed during the Spanish Civil War.

Were one or more of his parents or grandparents part of this group? If so then I probably know or know of him.
