Barry YES!!

Veloso YES!

Barry would offer us a solid dependable platform for the rest of our mifield. He's a great passer of the ball is strong, experienced and best of all he's a leader.
Veloso is technically top Class but i would rather have Barry.

Veloso can play CB too can't he? I would rather have him over Barry, although an Englishman would be nice.

Barry is that good that no one has ever mentioned him in 10 years apart from the odd deluded Villa fan no doubt!

Hes Liverpools and they're welcome to him.Mr Mediocrity. Right up Benitez's street.

I reckon Barry would be class at The Arsenal. Great passer, good tackler, Great injury record, good footballing brain. What more do you want?

i personally would prefer if they got someone like Frings or Senna in, the youngsters who want that midfield slot next to Cesc would gain vital experience learning off two older heads.

advantage being that they Senna/Frings would only play 2 seasons at the most then one of the few who want the slot would be ready.

Veloso and Barry would be a bit too expensive for our liking!!!

I don't like Barry. He's started to think he's bigger than his club which would only cause issues anywhere he goes.

Why doesn't he just officially demand a transfer if he wants to move so badly?

I reckon you should try and go for West Ham's Mark Noble he will be cheaper than Barry or Veloso and has the potential to be better than Barry and Veloso.

he wont hand a transfer request in because apparently he is due 3million in some sort of clause and he would much rather if the club got rid of him.

The above is according to a Villa Fan i know so it might not be 100% accurateok

Denilson, Diaby or Ramsey will do that job im confident

I bet most of you haven't seen Veloso play to be honest, i know i havent much so i'm not judging.

I'm sure Wenger will bring in another body for to add more cover in the CM position tho ok

For a start, hes Steve Me's mate and wants dearly to go to Liverpool. Its like this Arshavin situation. He wants elsewehere. Waste of time buying guys like that. Barry does all of those things you say, but he isnt 'great' at any of them. Hes an OK player who comes at a price that is grossly inflated and for what? Hes played for England! Its really no big deal that he has. England are desperate and hes played as no doubt Gerrard has agitated for it.

Frings will not leave Bremen now for sure.

I agree that Senna would be good. The contract problems of Barry should not lead us to believe that he is not a good player, because he most definitely is. He just does not seem to be an Arsenal kind of player, but thats only my opinion.

With the departures of Arsenal key players and Adebayor also not guaranteeing his future. There is propensity that they may struggle next season. Juande Ramos is tactically strenghtening his squad day by day, the 3rd or 4th place may not be a guarantee for Arsenal as they are far from 1st n 2nd.

I certainly respect your opinion and at this stage kind of agree, I do however believe that Barry could be become a real force within the Arsenal squad but I guess the 'become' is the operative word as we need to start punching our weight very early on in the season. It is a difficult one; Senna or Veloso would also be very welcome if I was making the decisions.
Dream on ay?

I mean he wouldnt be a bad signing. Just their are so much better. Its like arsenal buying kevin nolan... im an arsenal and bolton supporter (rebeled against my dad) and hes a good player, but anywhere else but a team where he's one of the best, he would not be good...

You think 4 points is far from 1st and 2nd ?

Personally Yaya is my favoured choice as I dont think Barry or Veloso will be available to us.

posted Jul 23, 2008

I think we should get Marco Senna. But Barry is ok too. Yaya Toure as well.

I still think our problem is with defense and not midfield. We need to get defenders...ASAP.

Even as a Gunner, I do agree that Tottenham has been making some good purchases. They will still be fighting for 6th but Ramos is a good manager. Where did they get all that money by the way?

Back to us: I just read Toure caught malaria, Edwardo has a set back and is 2 extra months out, Song will be gone and tired when he returns assuming Cameroon does well as they should, Gallas is good but iffy without Toure next to him.

So, we should sell Ade because he clearly wants to leave (too bad as I like him, but so be it). With that money and what we have left in the bank, we should get Arshavin, Marco Senna, the Russian team left back, and one more center back (a big bruiser unknown). Then I will rest easy.

YaYa is certainly a favourite but I thought he had dropped out of the frame? perhaps I am wrong, I wish his brother speediest of recoveries from this Malaria problem. I was in Nigeria for 3.5 years quite a while back and and due to sticking to the prescribed Paludrin I avoided the dreaded complaint but couple of our crew got a
mild version and they still suffer to this day with bouts of it.
I dont honestly know if there is any quick fix these days, there certainly wasnt then.

Miguel Veloso is a really excellent holding midfielder ( He is absolutely not a central defender by the way. Sporting only used him there when they had an injury crisis and he gave 100% as he always does but looked hopelessly out of place ). Like Barry he is left-footed and would therefore give the Arsenal midfield greater balance. Veloso is much younger than Barry however and would therefore make the more sensible purchase for Arsenal.

posted Jul 23, 2008

I think arsenal need a holding midfielder to replace flamini. There are 2 types of holding midfielder - one who is a good passer of the ball and one who is very good defensively and i think arsenal should be looking for a midfielder who is a good passer of the ball - similar to flamini. I think that someone like pirlo - who milan have said might be forced to sell, yaya toure, barry, or even alonso from liverpool. these are players who are defensive minded but are better passes of the ball than are defensively.

Why the need to buy someone? Doesn't buying Barry basically send the message to Diaby and Denilson that they will never get their chance?

Those two have had plenty of time to adapt and have racked up a decent number of appearances. Diaby looks closer to the level we need now but Denilson looks to have tons of talent.

If we do invest it should be as a backup to those 2.

Team next year:
Almunia, Sagna, Clichy, Gallas, Toure, Rosicky, Nasri, Cesc, Diaby, VanP, Adebayor.

Doesn't seem too bad to me.

I would love any one of the names mentioned above but it's not going to happen because for some reason Wenger just refuses to sign established world stars so why waste time on it? If that makes me a wetblanket then so be it.

Far from 1st or 2nd? I think not. Even SAF has come out and said that if we did not have the bad luck with injuries things could have been different.

Spurs are not a threat to any of the top four. Spurs have slipped down the teams to worry about board by at least five. Portsmouth, Everton, AV, Man City and Blackburn are well above you in terms of danger.

You say tactically strengthening spurs, but where are the players that you need to strengthen one of the worst defensive teams in the countries problems?

Its all very well buying in attacking players but he has overlooked the reason why you are not considered a side capable of breaking the top 4.

Hmmmmmm, after losing Querioz, I wouldn't be so confident about that.

Personally, I think Senna would fit in perfectly to your team, but didn't Villareal rate him at 20 million or something? And he's in his 30's? So I doubt Wenger would go for that.

As a complete shot in the dark, I predict he'll buy a defensive midfielder that is young, no one has heard of and happens to be french.

Yes that is an awesome team but there needs to be back up, mostly in midfield and especially in Defensive Mid

Barry does not fit the role, besides he is too old and slow and O'Neiel thinks he's worth too much.
The DM will prob be a back up, as someone said, young, untested and probably French ( and wont cost 10 mill!)

In my opinion Diaby last season reminded me of an early viera and i was wanted to know what a viera cesc combo would look like.
We have young players who have had 2 seasons of league cup and reserve games whilst training with the likes of henry, giberto, gallas and lehman. If arsene thinks he has a squad minus 1 to challange i gurentee it wont be someone straight in.

That player has already been signed. The BBC dont know anything and others dont seem to either. Coquelin has already been signed contrary to popular belief on the boards that we have only signed Ramsey and Nasri.

If anyone has bothered to read any interviews posted on the Arsenal board you all will know that he has already said that this player will be one of experience. So a young untested DM (who we have already signed, if you watch the friendlies or actually listen to a direct AW interview you would know) is out of the question.
