Rovers clear Nelsen for Olympics

If he doesn't go to the Olympics, he'll be playing friendlies with the Rovers' squad. I don't see how it's any different to playing in the Intertoto Cup last year?

Yep, right on the money for me RTT

Better to give him the chance to play games, and also allow him the chance to get a bit of national pride rather than put our foot down and risk alienating him from the new management.

We're not exactly struggling for quality cover either - It will give Ooijer some guaranteed match time, and maybe Zurab depending on the form of Samba at the start.

Good luck Nelly <ale>

Players risk injury in training, Nelson gets to play in the Olympics for his country, so no I personally dont think its a bad idea, he will be back for the start of the season.

On the money toppers, we have 4 quality centre backs, so its no bog deal having one going to the olympics, good luck Nelson.

Even tho it is only friendlies, will allow Ince to get Ooijer back onside.

Good move by Ince.
Players are just as likely to pick up injuries in friendlies as competitive games.
Ince has shown a gesture of goodwill, which should gain him some brownie points with Nelsen, and other players too possibly.

I'm really proud of Ince and Blackburn here. Great decision by him. Who knows, if we'd have been stubborn and not allowed him to go, he could have picked up an injury in training, who knows? At least Blackburn have a clear conscience now.

Besides, he'll have some good match practise and it's the least we could do for Ryan. He's been brilliant since he arrived so I have no quals about him going to the Olympics, even though I know we'll miss him dearly.

Come on the new season! Come around already!!!

Allowing Ryan to go to the Olympics is a big morale booster both for the Captain and the club. These small gestures go along way to securing the backing of your team.

It's possible Bentley will look at this and say "Maybe he's a great manager... I'll stay for a bit longer"...

Don't get me wrong, i'm stoked that Ince has let Nelsen head away and play at the Olympics but why restrict him to only two games and not the whole tournamnet? What happens if we actually win a game or two? Does Ince really expect the all whites best player to leave the team to come back when other premiership players will still be out there playing - mascherano for one?

Remember when how much stick Bentley got for pulling out of the England squad and commiting himself to Rovers. If Nelson was english and Ince had stopped him from going to join up with an England squad people would be in uproar. Why change your opinion just because he's not a brit? Absolutely the right desicion by Paul. Nelson will start the season for us in better shape for having played competative football and be all the happier at being alowwed to play for his country. Nice one Paul.

Of course its the right thing to do to let him go. This is the only international tournament he will ever qualify for and to deny him this playing for his country would be out of order. GG Blackburn.
