I read somewhere that djoko's hair is naturally spikey and there isn't much he can do about it.

djoko has a talent for starting slow at wimby and tiring himself loads against some anonymous players. I reckon he's mentally still very very unstable ans insecure

I fear there is not much Djoko can do about 'the dandelion' (as I believe his cut is known as)...it's just hair that grows out and wild <biggrin>

Maybe a stupid question but why are the number 1 and 3 seeds in the top half of the draw for the men and it's seeds 1 and 4 in the top half for the women???

well djoko just won the first set. berrer gave a good account of himself.

can anyone explain to me why so many zillion players just return the ball down the centre when there is so much more they can do with it. for example there are two corners in each side of the court which can be difficult to get to.

I can't believe that my important thread has been hijacked by Djokovics' spikey hairstyle.

Obviously that's an important issue and deserves a thread of its' own, but nonetheless i think this Pub Guy has potential, doesn't anyone else?

* Now someones turning it into a seeding draw thread. <doh> Thanks, we needed another of those!

In fairness, djokovic's opponent is playing really well and anybody would struggle against those groundstrokes. That said djoko breaks at the crucial time and takes the first set!

Djoko has such an incredible all round game, so good to watch!

ye spikey takes good advantage of the lines. how refreshing it would be if he grows his hair really long, afro style....just what wimbledon needs.

"but nonetheless i think this Pub Guy has potential"

Maybe if he was 20yrs old, the guy is 28....
But I do agree, he is playing v well indeed.

coolpixel, in my experience players often return the ball right down the centre if it's too fast to do anything else with it.

Berrer is 28, this Pub Guy is about 38 by the look of it.

Still, he's a break up in the 2nd now. <yikes>

Overstrander this way is perfect. Nadal and Joko seem to always play on the same bracket. This time if Fed and joko do meet in the semi then we will see how good Fed is right now.
Now is time for Fed to feel the heat. If Fed goes to the finals and he plays Nadal then Fed, for sure, will be to tired and it should be a plus for Nadal. Same way was last yr for Fed after Nadal played so many matches, due to the rain, and in the SF had to play joko.

When I was at Wimbledon last year I saw Michael Berrer playing on an outside court in the doubles. I had not heard of him before and assumed he was a complete nobody but it did strike me that he was the chunkiest player I had ever seen (on the mens circuit that is) !

Perhaps you are little premature talking about a Djoko semi.

2nd break in the 2nd set to Pub Guy, 5-2 and serving <yikes> That one was really easy.

You mean the rain made Nadal play more matches? When did THAT rule come in??!!

Oh, and he played perhaps the most knackered player (in Djoko) I have ever seen in a semi. And lost the 1st set before Djokovic had to retire.

very easy second set for berrer. djoko just seemed to fold third game onwards of the second set. i didnt see berrer playing any better than he did in the first set.

Is this the Djokovic that is supposed to be one of the big 2 that is going to dethrone King Roger. Dont make me laugh. This Wimby is going to be a walk in the park for Roger Federer. I wander if the other 2 ( of the so called big 3) are even going to make it to the final.

Berrer's BMI is 27.4 (99 kilos for 1m90), very overweight for a professional sportsman.

MartinTennis - professional footballers are often "overweight" on the BMI scale - I remember Sol Campbell being cited as an example - because their excess weight is due to a lot of muscle. Although given Tom F's comments, I get the impression Berrer's weight isn't due to extra hours in the gym...

Is Simon Reed in love with Djokovic? He was distraught at the end of the 2nd set and then started jumping around like a squealing teenager as the bulky barman flagged.

FACT: The Pub Guy isn't fit enough for three sets never mind any more, and Djokovic will be worried about the exposure of his forehand to the low bouncing ball.

Sorry if this is harsh but the TV commentary is laughable. why get Borris Becker on when he can't speak English, just because he's German?

They should take a leaf out of the Aussie tennis commentators. Very quiet, very subtle, but very informative, no over-praise or under-praise that swings several times in a single match.

As Fed fans, PLEASE lets not get into this! Nole is an excellent player and just because he is not winning (currently) as easily doesn't mean us Fed fans should wish he looses!
We Fed fans are different from such trolls like GJ, Stephanerational, LION abd AIR! :)

I really don;t like Fed loosing so easily, it gets him into false sense of security hence tends to struggle in later rounds! Hope Sod makes Fed work a little harder! Saying that i can easily see Fed reaching the semis/Final without dropping a set! :)

it's odd isn't it. Fed plays Halle and gets ribbed for playing lesser competition. Then Nole plays Berrer in the 1st round, who Fed beat in the first round of Halle in straight sets, and loses at set to him.

Ok, Nole won and Halle is a weaker field..... i think not. Enough said.

whoever said djokovic is not that good and how did he reach world number three...........wake up and smell the coffee.

In the past year, he has won the Australian Open, destroying Fed in straight sets, won Masters series titles, Runner up in US Open, semi final in the last two French opens giving nadal his toughest matches and you are wondering why he is world number three.

He has beaten all the best players in the world and has completely destroyed murray each time he has played him.

Why even say something as stupid as that. Djokovic may soon be world number one!!

"In the past year, he has won the Australian Open, destroying Fed in straight sets"

Slasher, while I agree your overall assessment of Djoko's performance and his likelihood to be a future No1, I must object to the use of the word 'destroying'. I don't think a match in which a below par Fed served for the first set and had set points in the third counts as destruction (For a definition of destruction please refer to FO 2008 final).

Also, he never took a set off Nadal in the FO (Fed has done previously). So I don't believe that a 3 set match is actually tougher than a 4 set one!

A bit pedantic, I know!
