The team with the guts to play two forwards. Any team. I don't care. UEFA must ban the lone striker. I fell asleep three times during the first two games today. The most boring World Cup in history is continuing its tradition in the Euros. Czech vs. Swiss and Czechs use one forward....?????? Does anyone want to win?

That was unlucky for the Swiss, they deserved at least a draw, especially for the firs 20minutes of the 2nd Half. *sigh* it'll be the lucky czechs and stylish portuguese now.

Anyone who can put the words Tranmere and premier in the same sentence is quite clearly short of a screw or two. Although i do think Tranmere could probably beat the christmas bird judging from their pathetic display last night. Truly dreadful.

czech republic and portugal, easily.
still wondering why motty decided to say "sverkos, has scored the only goal, of euro 2008!" though, haha.

I don't Czech have enough to go through. And there display against Switzerland proved it. They'll stutter through a Portugal side on fire and I think Turkey have enough to scrape a win.

Switzerland on the other hand being the hosts will be even more determined for their skipper Frei and they'll get a point against Portugal and win against Turkey.

1 Portugal 7
2 Switzerland 4 (Switzerland win with bigger goal diff)
3 Czech Rep 4
4 Turkey (Who cares?)

FACT: but they lost!
=======================
Now thats a bit harsh considering the fact that the swiss played good football and took us all by suprise,furthermore they were denied 2 penaltys one which should have been given and the other is debateble and all in all the swiss should have won the czech scored a flukey goal and in all honesty with a performance like that portugal will hammer
them.

I only hope that the Italians get a Swiss referee somewhere down the line and he's going to do the same to them as their greasy representative did to the Swiss.

The pattern has already been set though: the bigger teams get the calls, the smaller ones don't - like in the PL.

Well, well.... a very good, solid performance by the Swiss, we had them Czechs under total control for the whole game bar that one moment - and they scored.

Should the ref have given a penalty? One can argue one way or the other - for me (biased), it should have been a pen. Yes, the arm might not have gone towards the ball - but if an arm/hand is above one's head, how can it be ruled 'unintentional'? Is there not always 'intention' when lifting one's arm up above the head?

Anyways... it's over and nothing will change the result. I am convinced that we are going to beat Turks (2-0) as they really aren't that good. Hoping that Portugal beats the Czechs by a few goals (3-0 would do it for me) and since they then have qualified for the quarter-finals, they might be taking the 3rd game a bit light and we can beat them, qualifying for the quarters on 6 points. smiley

Its very difficult to say.... Portugal are certainly the favourites to go through, and after the decent performance against Turkey, they are one of the favourites to go all the way

It will probably be the Czechs.. if they get a draw in this game, most likely... they have a solid defence, most of their defensive players are playing in the Serie A, and Portugal are always famous for missing a lot of their chances, with some evident lack of accuracy from time to time... suggesting, there won't be many opportunities in this game

It's not looking like there are going to be any surprises in the first round. So if we skip the prelims semis will be;
Portugal v Germany (Portugal to win)
Holland v Spain (Spain to win)
If there's any justice these two neighbouring countries will scrap it out for the tournament.
For me the prospect of a Holland Germany final is just too same old same old and boring to contemplate.

Group A champions will be Portugal no doubt, but the second place allocation remains wide open.

Although Turkey lost to Portugal, they still remain a strong contender. Czech Republic will need to step up a gear if they want the second place, and Switzerland cannot afford to lose another, however I'm not sure the Swiss are going to survive the group I'm afraid.

I think Portugal is more favourite to win group A because the team has lots of talented and world class players, and they are performing their effective offensive style of play. They could have scored more than two goals during their match against Tuskey. There will be no problem for them to get three points against the Czech if they play with 100% of their capacity.

im a turk naturally i want them to progress but witt the stanard of football they are playing i dont have much hope. shame cause turkish football is way better then they are plaing currently. I blame the manager and his tactical inadaptness. but, i hope im wrong and we go through.

I know it sounds very drastic to expect results to change based on one player being out, but with Frei still in the tournament, Switzerland stood a chance. I really rate him.

Yet now this is an easy group for Portugal and Czech Republic to progress from, and would be a miracle if they didnt

As things stand, if the Czech Republic and Turkey draw on Sunday night, they have to have a penalty shoot-out to determine who goes through with Portugal - has that ever happened before?

or they may look at team discipline and see how many cards each team got and in that case Turkey go home early as their indisciplined, brutal and violent and this is reflected in teh number of bookings theyve got...
