Magnus Lund

International England

With the injuries and suspensions England currently have I find it strange that there has been very little discussion about including Magnus Lund in the EPS. I have seen him play quite a few games with Biarritz and in each game he has played extremly well. I think Scotland currently has a very strong pack, but if he was Scottish I would happily see him included in our squad. As my knowledge on why certain english players are selected and others are ommitted is extremly limited could the English fans let me know what they think about why he isn't in the squad?

I always rated him as a Sale man,

Somehow I think that England are against going back to a discarded player which he has been, though I don't remember him doing anything too bad in what were England's darkest days.

I think we could do worse than he.

As GM said there's little chance that Jonno will look again at someone who has been out of the picture for so long. Like Chris Jones, Lund was a good player who didn't really get the chance at the top level- or who didn't sieze it as he might have.

He's just not visible week-in-week-out due to playing across the pond - this is the reason for the RFU's recent statements regarding foreign-based players.

Also, as a Leeds fan, I must admit that after spending quite a lot of time shouting insults at his humongous but broadly useless brother, Erik, I have come to synonymise the family name with having very little between the ears!!

I was a fan of him when he was playing in the UK a few years back, but he seemed to have a tough time adjusting when he first went to France and went of the boil. I've certainly heard a few people say he's found his form again this season though.

However, the few matches of his I've seen this season, he has been either good or unremarkable. There are better options who have been playing in the Saxons for the last season or two.

Given England's statements about picking foreign players, I don't see them going for him. They've continued picking players who were already in the frame and moved to France, but as he wasn't in the frame and won't have the extra England training release in his contract it's a bit too much of a stretch.

Difficult to judge because I don't see enough of him now, but I suspect his experience would place him just ahead of Wood in the pecking order were he still playing in England. Johnson wouldn't go to him now unless there were a real crisis but with Saull and Armitage still options as well as Moody, Fourie, Rees and Wood, Lund will to come back to England to stand a chance.

I do agree that he deserves more of a mention though, and have posted similar before.

My memory of Lund's last chance for England was when he fouled someone - I think a fairly heavy high tackle if memory serves. It was accidental and judged so by the ref but he was a ghost of himself all game, a bit like hurting someone shock him, that wasn't his idea of rugby. Rather odd for a back row, especially an English one given what has gone before in the 7 shirt.....
I think the England coaches detected mental weakness and binned him. I know I would have - 6 / 7 is all about being a controlled lunatic.
