Just saw this on Cricinfo.

Bascially, India have not been able to get Eden Gardens ready for the England vs India game on 27th of February. This is pathetic. They have known about the world cup for years. This seems to vindicate what I have thought all along: that this World Cup is going to be a disaster due to the notorious inefficiency of the host nations: we had a near disaster with the commonwealth games, now we have had a genuine disaster. I hope that the BCCI is suitably embarrased and contrite because if they are not then it is even more of a shocking event. I hope that this is not, for the sake of world cricket, the tip of the iceberg. But I fear it might be. In the interim, I feel that the ICC ought to punish India for this terrible inefficiency by moving the Game out of India - to (so that the teams can travel more easily and directly) either Dhaka or Columbo. It should not be moved to another venue in India. I believe that India should lose their home support, since they are unable to provide a stadium in which the teams are to play. This is a disgrace.

India isn't poor, but it's corrupt economic system means the money is very poorly distributed . The BCCI is the richest cricket body in the world and pays huge sums to it's players, but a stadium can't be refurbished in time for the World Cup.
I shall leave you all to work out why this is..

Which ever idiot thinks India is a third world country ought to learn a little about ecconomics. Is that you Shango you prat in disguse. India is one of the BRIC countries are rather than getting on you high horse and being proud to be English you better get used to the fact that in 20 or so years they will be one the strongest ecconomies in the world.
You always come on Shango and behave like an idiot why not just go away and leave these blogs alone

China

The countries who actually make the things you by. Oh and own most of the debt of the USA and UK! Better how you don't upset them at last count UK and USA owed China around 2.7 trillion dollars. If they call that in we are the ones who are gonna be part of the third world

Well said Mathna and Paul!

Back to the topic, i hope something can be worked out so that this great match is not taken away from Eden Gardens. There's a reason it was chosen to host this match, the Kolkata crowed are the know to be vocal and it would have provided for a great atmosphere!

Also hope the supporters who stand to lose out are fully reimbursed for by the responsible body, be that the BCCI, ICC or the local authorities of Kolkata.

english media correctly went over the board doubting the stadium readiness, security issue etc.

But once CWG was completed successfully, it didn't regret the idiotic reporting and have had egg on their face since without acknowledging.

There was no terrorist incident which was the single biggest concern but in the end went unreported.

It's no excuse though for completing the work in the nick of time.

I've booked all flights, trains, hotels, game tickets and mini-tours between 3 India games. and probably will have to pay cancellation fees here and there. Well done BCCI! I was looking forward to that match since it was first scheduled!

Today as planed in advance WORLD CUP cricket is taking place in the subcontinent with still a lot of hiccups. You are talking about Olympics--yu must be dreaming. After what INDIA went thru for CWG, no nation will allow any major event to take place in INDIA for next 20 years, I feel.
