Hello all Potters, part time Villa fan here. Just wanted to say congrats on sealing Carew's signature. A post eariler on from a guy calling Football 'Soccer', concluded that the big guys signing just means you will play more long balls and so on.

This could not be further from the truth, if anything I would say he is technically superior to K.Jones, you can play the ball to Carew's feet, chest or head. His goals to game ratio for Villa is something like 1 in every 3.3 games, the best striker we have had since Yorke.

Obviously we have Bent now, who is a 1 in 2 man but I would have loved to have seen Carew and Bent together as a pair, Carew will not go down in folklore in Brum but he will be remembered very fondly indeed.

Big John didn't score enough goals for me, but he still acheived cult status at the Villa and refusing to even consider playing for Blues confirms he's a true Villan, but it's time to move on and I hope he performs well for Stoke, but I don't think he'll cure your striking problem

If this is Pulis' idea of a replacement for Ric then we've just taken a massive step backwards. I'd rather have Demba Ba and his dodgy knee than Carew.

He will be a good short term signing for Stoke. I enjoyed Carew at Villa, and wish him well. On his day a very good striker, but prone to some very 'disinterested' peformances. In fairness he scored 12 plus goals for us 3 years in a row, and he was often injured/ not first choice. I think Villa is the longest he has stayed at a club, he is a bit of a wanderer. I wouldn't be suprised if he gets you about 5-6 goals, and goes somewhere warm for his final years years as a player.

Big John's a legend. I'm chuffed we've signed Darren Bent but still gutted we're losing John. He's such a character, a true cult hero who always gets the crowd going. Stoke have landed a big man with a big heart and I really hope he does the business for them. You'll always get a warm welcome at Villa Park John.

I genuinely think this is a fantastic signing for Stoke. I'm a Liverpool fan and don't have fond memories of Liverpool playing away at the Brittania earlier in the season because we just couldn't deal with Kenwyne Jones at all. Carew is a similar 'type' of player, and I think he'll obviously add an element from set pieces and crosses as well as holding up the ball and laying it off for the likes of Tuncay and Etherington. Good luck to you

At a mere 6ft5 I think Carew may be too small for Stoke. I think they need a bigger man up front.

Yep legendaryhotdogman a few years ago I had an idea for a spring loaded football boot that shoots a player 10 foot in the air but there wasn't a market for it until now.

Any defenders facing Stoke must have earnt there wings, there going to need them.

Carew has on several occasions (a few years ago) told Norwegian media that he wants to return to his old Norwegian team Vålerenga for the last years of his career. Vålerenga is the only Oslo-based team left in the top division, and his son is starting school here in the autumn. Up in Oslo we are hoping he returns home after his contract with Villa expires =)

Carew is very good striker, I liked him from the days he played for valencia, Tho i dont think him an jones will suit together. Tho Delap big throw ins to them could cause alot trouble for other teams
