I don't think that this is the worst appointment in the world, given what was available. I think the most important thing is that he is given time. Ipswich really weren't likely to get a massive name in and I think banking on experience may be a good move.

As for the big club arguments, they really are totally irrelevant and pointless. Its completely subjective and whatever your conclusion it matters very little in the grand scheme of things. Ipswich are a championship club with a comparatively large support for their position. They have quite a successful history but not particularly recently. Make of it what you will, it doesn't matter either way.

Not entirely sure of the relevance of this comment, but it is certainly incorrect. Sir Alf had his one and only managerial job (prior to England) at Ipswich. He was there for 8 years, during which time they won the league.

Bobby Robson was appointed Ipswich manager following a disastrous (and brief) introduction to management at Fulham. He was manager for 13 years, during which time he won the FA Cup and the UEFA Cup.

I am not saying that they learned everything they knew at Ipswich, but the club can at least claim credit for having patience with them during the lean spells.

That patience doesn't exist today at Ipswich or anywhere else, which is why it is so hard to find and English manager in the top flight.

The thing most people will remember about Jewell is that when he came in at Derby he brought in the likes of Robbie Savage and got rid of players with talent. When you think back to what he did with Wigan it's nearly as impressive as what Burley did with Ipswich.

I wonder if goidelic is just a jealous Norwich fan? (with apparently poor football history knowledge!). banbrotam hasn't found anything to be positive about anything - there's pills to sort that out you know.

" banbrotam hasn't found anything to be positive about anything "

laugh

How come I'm the one defending Jewell, saying he'll do a good job?

Instead of puffing your chest out and arguing that you are a medium sized club and hence implying you deserve better, YOU try and be positve

Roy Keane does not seem to be able to transmit his passion for the game to the
team(s) he has managed on a consistent basis. Maybe he is too controversial and demanding for some of the tender egos playing the game today?
He probably would have a more successful career behind a microphone. sadface

why dont people like him? he took bradford up and kept them up, took up wigan from lower leagues and kept them up and took them to the league cup final. he was even connected to the england job before mcclaren got it. thats much more than any of our recent managers have done.

Chelsea fan in peace here.I have to say that Paul Jewell is the best manager that Ipswich can currently get and Paul Jewell did wonders for Bradford and Wigan. As for his failure at Derby,Derby were the worst team in history of Premiership. So Jewell stood no chance to keep a poor team like Derby in the Premiership.
Good luck to Ipswich for this season and in the future and I do not want Ipswich to be relegated from Championship.
Hopefully Ipswich will stay up this season and then will be challenging for promotion to Premiership in a few years.

Teams in Championship that I like are Norwich,Cardiff and Reading.
Anyway good luck for Carling Cup match against Arsenal.ok
