I can see these two forming a great partenship. The big man little man combo can be used really well with these two. With Carroll's strength/flick on's and Ranger's speed I can see these too causing premier league defences a big problem for the next 10 years. Rangers final finish could use with a bit off work, but he is 18 ? correct me if Im wrong.
Predictions for tomorrow:
BCFC 1-3 NUFC
Carroll (35)
Ranger (58)
Gardner (64)
Carroll (77)

Defintely agree.. Ranger just brings something more to our game than Ameobi.. he's quick, probably as strong as Shola, is a handful & with the right coaching & development he's bound to improve his finishing aswell.. remember he's only 19.

Ranger and Carroll could defintely form a partnership which will hopefully last a long time.

Ameobi is detrimental to our play. Useful because he is unothodox and does have a knack of scoring. Ranger is young, quick, strong and most importantly actually works and closes defenders down. You press from the front. It's basics and that is why I get frustrated with Shola. He just wanders around waiting for the ball to arrive. Ranger is the best young striker I've seen in a while at holding up the ball and bringing others into play. Even when he has been sent out wide he works. The things he's missing can be trained. You can't make someone work, they have to want it. His finishing is poor. There's no getting away from it. But the team is better with him in, and we can always bring Shola on. Carroll is crying out for movement alongside. His flick ons are wasted when we do go direct. Ranger can create space for Carroll and I reckon we'd see more thunderbolts if so.

Shola does a good job of sitting deep to bolster the midfield during pressure games- it helped us beat arsenal- Ranger will be a good player providing they dont just stick him out and pressure him. Hes still nervy and flighty, he needs a season coming off the bench, getting used to play and then if there is any injuries he will get a chance. It worked for Carroll

I don't think Ranger's finishing is necessarily poor, just his composure in front of goal at such a high level of football. Remember when he was destroying the U18s and possible reserve teams a couple of years ago? He also has 6 goals in 12 games for the England U19s.

absolutely spot on.

Ameobi gets a bad rap, but he has been an important player supporting the midfield - particularly dropping back when Nolan comes forward on runs.

He's also quite strong and deceptively good at positioning - having him on the pitch draws out defenders giving Carroll a lot more space.

I think the current setup of having Ameobi on from the start and bringing Ranger in as a sub works really well. By 60 mins in, Rangers pace opens up the game.

Also: It's worth noting that Ameobi has 6 goals and 5 assists this season, and was Hughton's second choice team captain.

The next 10yrs? Mate, you'll be lucky to get 1yr never mind 10yrs in the Premier League with your current manager! Ranger may have a bit of pace but his finishing at this level is way off the mark. You can't just rely on Carroll every game, Ameobi is a far better foil than Ranger. Hard working player who has shown loyalty too. Don't understand why he is knocked so badly. You should be grateful for a player like that.

I'm sorry but Ameobi was going to get shipped out back in 08 when Stoke & Ispwich came knocking but the deal fell through.. so we had to stick with him.. Ameobi on his day can be as good as ANY striker in the EPL(see Sunderland game) he's strong, decent finisher, powerful, good positional sense & good heading ability but lacks pace & his work rate isn't that great after 60 or 70 mins...

Good player to have in the squad though.
