Interesting tweet from Ferrari

They have just tweeted that they are changing Alonso's engine between FP1 and FP2, to help manage the engine mileage.

Will be very interesting to see how many laps they complete, and they must be very marginal on his engines to be having to do it between practice sessions

Was just about to say that - full throttle for literally the entire lap except a few lifts here n there - probably the highest engine wear of any circuit?

F1 Dave
I don't understand are you having a debate with yourself here?
First you say its the freshest engine and suggest Alonso is in a good postion then you say Monza is exchautive on the engine plus was in Buttons exhuast whole time and therefore is bad. I am leaning towards the later definatly. Ferrari have had the least consistent engines of all engine suplier including Cosworth.

Nice discussion !
I tend to go with F1_Dave though ... Ferrari ran engine nr 8 (Alonso) for 4 races ... the Monza unit only being used once, should do the trick !
(Massa is already on nr 9 though !), so there goes reliability out of the window ... so true !

I am sure Ferrari has some tricks up its sleave; it is Ferrari !

Such a shame Bernie wants Vettel to win the title ... Go Webber !!!

Plus, that engine has to do this race (in Brazil's heat) and then Abu Dhabi!!

To be perfectly honest Brazilian heat is not something you can call, even as I sit here typing with the wind getting up. Its hot yes, but it could so easily be raining come Sunday. Its not the time of the year you can predict.

Following the discussion I think Ferrari may be playing the field with the engine today... (i have no idea about what engine is what but do see the tactical advantage of raising question marks) just wait till qualifying and judge them then and there.

"just wait till qualifying and judge them then and there. "

Surely you mean just wait till the chequered flag?

I'd rather have an engine that'd done twice/3 times the distance at Singapore, Japan and Korea, than one that had done Monza in someone's hot exhaust air to get me through Brazil and especially Abu Dhabi.

I suspect Alonso knows his best hope is this weekend as I reckon a full race here and in Abu Dhabi on a engine thats already done a fair few miles they'll know its a risk. He'll most likely have to manage the settings aswell wouldn't expect him to have it turned up so to speak for a great deal of the race.

But then we'll know soon enough

I reckon this will be alonso's downfall. I cant help but imagine that even if alonso avoids an engine change he will be down on performance because he's been on 8engines 4quite a while now
