India V Aus, 2nd Test, Day 1

Thoughts on the first days play people?

For me Pontings first mission - winning the toss and batting - has been accomplished.

His second mission (IMO) needs to be for Aus to score well (400+) and relativly quickly (by lunch tomorrow) if they want to force a result).

How do people think the lack of Bollinger and Laxman will affect the game? Does it tilt it towards Aus or India?

nigeweir ....Shewag doesn't know any different style of play hence the wicket...Dravid's poor form at Bangalore continues hence 2 down ...lets see what happens from here on...another wicket means Aussies level the series

Yes, it seems so mate, but Vijay seems to be playing nicely and we know all about the other little fella smiley
Good score set by Australia so chucking your wicket away for a quick fire 30 is going to put India in deep trouble.
Good test match again though and that's what we want to see.

nigeweir
Shewag averages approx 53 in test cricket. This is a great average considering the way he plays.

ginger, that's a fair comment but he is just far too cavalier for my liking. His strike rate in this series is borderline ridiculous and infact some would struggle to match him in the T20 form of the game.
Now the Indians are taking Hauritz for 7 an over and Vijay is hitting sixes.
I am just not sure what the plan is here?
One thing I can not deny, we are getting spoiled with some more fantastic Test Match cricket here applause

Just to emphasize my point a little, the little maestro Tendulkar is not out on 10 and has used 31 balls. Since when has he been a boring cricketer?

He's not.
Sehwag though will only play in the manner that suits him.
I reckon the coach and captain tell him to play his natural game and just accept the fact that he will win some and lose some.
Like I say, an average of approx 53 and strike rate of late eighties makes him IMO the best opener since Gavasker.

nigeweir....After loosin 2 quick wickets I'd think caution would be the order of the day isn't it ?

Yes Luke, and these 2 are knuckling down and getting India back on track. A third quick wicket and this could have been curtains.
