Live - Ryder Cup day four

Ryder Cup
comment on the article

Welcome, to an unprecedented day four of the Ryder Cup, the biggest prize in golf.

I'm not quite sure how today even tries to follow the wonderful scenes from Sunday, but it's going to. This is the tournament that just keeps on giving.

Europe need five points to regain the trophy they lost two years ago; the United States need 7 points to retain it.

The action gets going at 0905 BST, when Lee Westwood takes on Steve Stricker. After that, anything can happen. Follow it all right here, as usual.

"Your having a laugh trying to defend him and YES the captains role is the very important - if you cant spot that then your a WUM

nope not a wum, and no its almost immaterial- infact most of the time the captain that does the least does the best.

seve is one of europes true legends yet almost cost us the cup and did some absoloutley insane things , the players were not impressed one iota by his captaincy..

most captains are just bumbling old dudes messing things up have the time..

mysticRoakey laugh

Faldo was definitely one of the worst captains in recent memory. Hated him as a player also. just nothin endearing about the man.

I'd rather it was Olazabal as captain, Clarke would send the Irish posters here into overdrive!

------------------------

Ezio, I thought you were better than that. It matters little the nationality of the captain, so long as the best man for the job gets it and Europe win. Seems to be the case (yourself excluded) that there are one or two English posters who aren't enamoured by the idea of the Ryder Cup and the European team, that's their problem. I'm sure there are plenty of English golf fans who appreciate the unique experience of a European team in international sporting competition and of course the necessity that it needs to be a European team to be competitive against the USA. I know the golf professionals do. Good win for Europeok

I think Olazabal would be a great captain for the next Ryder cup. Hope he is physically up for it.

olly is certainly a truely exeptional golfer so he would have my vote if we are strictly going for a new captain!

During the closing ceremony , the crowds reaction when Olazabals name was called out by Monty was huge - he also got a standing ovation from all the players.

If he wants to be captain next time out then its in the bag.

In the post-tournament BBC interview Monty virtually bequeathed the captaincy to Olli. I assume the European PGA Committee are seeing it that way too, otherwise Monty will look a bit daft if someone else gets picked.

Sorry but when you ask players that where around and playing well when Faldo was in his prime, none of them liked him, he was grumpy kept himself to himself, would not mix or even help younger pros's venturing into the PGA for the first time.

Faldo achieved a lot on the golf course, but as a person, he was not well liked, ask one of his wife's to vouch for that
