Virgin Racing have signed Belgian GP2 driver Jerome D'Ambrosio in an evaluation role for four of the five remaining Formula 1 races this season.

The 25-year-old has spent four seasons in the GP2 feeder series and is a reserve and test driver at Renault.

Sauber, meanwhile, have also enhanced their line-up by signing Mexican Esteban Gutierrez as their test and reserve driver for 2011.

How do you think D'Ambrosio and Gutierrez will fare?

i've seen Esteban Gutierrez race a couple of times, once in the wet and once in the dry and he drove away from everyone else on both occasions. he's a great prospect and is still very young but i'm sure he'll be someone we'll all know about in future years. he'll do very well

I hear D'Ambrosio lives on rice pudding. Plays havoc with his Gutierrez though....

I was going to suggest that D'Ambrosio might become the cream of the crop, but you got in first with your comment, Axle laugh

Does anyone know if Gutierrez' signing means Sauber have secured some Mexican sponsorship for 2011, particularly from billionaire Carlos Slim?

As far as I know, Esteban has minor sponsorship from Slim.
I am sure that Slim will invest money in Sauber; but it will be according to Pete's and Esteban's father's conditions.
I have a feeling they will not allow to have the whole car painted as telmex; nor Esteban belong to Telmex.
