national managers should always be from the country they are born or its a farce. england are coming to that point of view also, why a italian should manage an english national team is wrong. engilsh manager for england, welsh manager for wales, italian manager for italy and so forth or the national team will not be pure.ok

Loads of players aren't even from the country they play for these days, half of the mediocre English players just choose Ireland, Scotland or Wales as an option. I find it hard to care that much about international football really, it's not what it used to be, possibly because of the huge wages they get paid by their clubs.

If Bryan Flynn wants the job,he should have it on a permanent basis.To do otherwise would be a gross insult to a man who has done a very good job with the U21's.

Should things not improve over a reasonable period,then replace him,but he can only work with what he will have at his disposal.My expectations of The Welsh team are very low.In fact,I lost interest in the setup the day Vinnie Jones was selected to play.

Good luck to him,anyway,if he gets the job.

If Flynn masterminds emphatic wins (I'm thinking by minimum 2-3 goals)over both Bulgaria and Switzerland, then the FAW could be justified in taking a big gamble on his limited big-game experience.

However anything less and the FAW have to wake up to reality and get their chequebook out, stop penny pinching and go for the very best that they could possibly stretch to. Even make it Performance-related pay.

finished..... i agree with you mate, all this rubbish of my great grandfather was welsh and iv lived in wales for 5 years nonsense, international team should consist of players that are actually born in the country only, managers also or its a farce, i also think there should be a fixed fee across the board for playing for your country, players have to get back to playing for pride and honour and not for how much they can earn.ok

@Dai Swan

Being born in Wales should not be the benchmark. Lots of English or anyone else could get in.

I was born in England though my parents are Welsh and their parents and their parents and on and on. And so am I.

Doesn't matter where you're born, as my nan used to say: "being born in a stable doesn't make you a horse".

Is this really the answer? Flynn appointed by Toshack, Flynn now replacing Toshack. Flynn has been part of a team that has the look of a boxer who has taken too many batterings. Together, Toshack and Flynn have looked jaded for a long now.

Management succession has only ever worked for one national side and that is Germany but it is a system that has been used for years in Germany with the formula laid in stone. England tried it, McClaren replacing Erickson, result a complete farce and they still havn't recovered.

I have no doubt the current crop of Welsh players have talent therefore Wales really should be looking for a management team with fresh ideas to bond that talent. I've said it before on here, N Ireland and Eire with the players they have perform and challenge, no one even in the wildest imagination would say their player pool was superior to the Welsh.

I do hope I am wrong about Flynn and wish him all the best.

By the way I am an Englishman living in Wales but I am desperate for them to succeed.

A passionate manager who could drive the players forward and entice the likes of Simon Davies back into the international fold is needed. I am afraid Flynne is not that man.
