Let's debate Wildcard choices

Ryder Cup

How about some debate who Monty should pick with his three wild cards ?

Personally I think he should pick Luke Donald, Paul Casey and Justin Rose and sacrifice Padraig Harrington and Edoardo Molinari this time around.

Donald, Rose and Casey all play very well in Foursomes and Singles, had strong performances in last Ryder Cup and proven through great seasons in US their form and value - only reasons they did not make it automatically was "inflation" on World Ranking Points that propelled European Tour stalwarts Kaymer and McDowell to take WR points slots that were expected to go to predominently US PGA tour players.

AS for E.Molinari I think he is great candidate too but different from the others had his chances to qualify on points as he plays full European tour therefore came up short.

lastly probably most controversial we have Harrington - 3 time Major winnner. He first of all did not win a match in last Ryder Cup and secondly performed poorly in all Majors and did not win a tournament this year which all adds up to why I would rank him below Casey, Donald and Rose

Interested to hear what others think

guys - any golfer that has even the remotest chance of qualifying, should SWIM to Scotland and play at Gleneagles rather than chase Uncle Sam's big bucks - on that basis, I'd tell Harrington etc to take a hike and I'd pick Molinari, Quiros, Dyson - at least their hearts and souls stand up to scrutiny!

I would certainly leave out Harrington. He is not playing well and like others puts cash in the fed ex before trying to qualify. I would probably also leave out Donald, who has not performed well this season in Europe. Ther are players with more fire in their belly than the passive Donald. I would reluctantly include Casey, very strong and a good match player, although does show fraility at times, as seen in the Open. E. Molinari should be included, has has a bgreat season and paired with his brother would make a very strong pairing, as seen in the World Cup. Both also very passionate. The third spot should go to Rose, who although not performing that well in Euroope, has won twice in the States, with other high finishes. Most of his golf this season has been against the yanks. He would be a good choice. Thats it, sorted. Monty has no problems, trying to milk the press, with comments that he finds it impossible. Nio matter what team we put out, we will win. If monty struggles with selections, then why have a doubter as Captain. He is not a good choice. Far to grumpy if no going well, then the toys get flung out the pram. We need a stalwart. Make Bernard Langer liftime Captain and we would win every time.

Rose, franny molinari and langer.....
think rose and poulter, the molinari brothers..... need to think about the partnerships. Personally though nothing would give me greater satisfaction than the Americans to trash Europe. I despise Mongomerie and would love to see a massive spanner stuck in his belief that the ryder cup has been his 'major'...

Stuart Pidfall With all due respect, you wouldn't back Harrington to sink the winning putt? Right! Who, on the European team would you prefer to have a pressure putt? He is the best pressure putter in Europe and one of the top 3 short game experts I would say in the world. Most commentators have said so, not just me!I saw him at the Irish Open this year and it was the best short game performance I have ever seen from anyone. He has won 3 majors for gods sake! While Casey, Rose and Donald are good players, whenever they have been in contention in the biggest tournaments they have crumbled under the pressure. How could you objectively have Casey in ahead of Harrington when Harrington is higher in the Ryder Cup rankings, let alone having acheived alot more in the game! Yes Harrington had a very poor last Ryder Cup, he had won 2 majors that summer of 2008 and then had to play the Fed Ex cup as a double major winner when it was obvious he was exhausted and it carried into the Ryder Cup in America. In the 2006 Ryder cup in his singles match against Scott Verplank was 8 under for 15 holes, Harrington was 4 under!!! Up to that he had won all his singles matches since his debut in 1999. Lets see how the 4 guys mentioined play in the US this week and we'll see who has the bottle!!!!!

Decent enough starts by both Paddy and Casey. As it goes I would choose Casey before Harrington as I think he's a better matchplay golfer.
Id probably choose Casey, Donald and Harrington. But Harrington would be the third pick.

Although a great foursome partner, with the likelihood of wet conditions Donald may be too short for Celtic Manor.

Can't help but feel we are going into RC with one hand tied behind our backs with Mrs Doubtfire calling the shots. Crazy Paving might resemble Charlie Chaplin's love-child, but I think the septics will be happier lining up behind him than the Euros behind Mrs D....
