Live - Europa League play-offs

European Football
comment on the article

Thursdays. No longer will they be all about the ill-advised drink-on-a-school-night that makes Fridays at work such a drag, oh no - Thursday night is Europa League football night again.

Yep, tonight Europe's second competition gets interesting, and we're still only at the qualifying play-off stage. Liverpool are of course involved after seeing off Rabotnicki in the previous round - they are up against Trabzonspor - while big-spenders Manchester City mark their return to European competition with a trip to FC Timisoara.

There is also CSKA Sofia v Welsh outfit The New Saints - the lowest-ranked team in the competition, but first up we have Rapid Vienna v Aston Villa for you to enjoy over your evening meal. Beautiful.

So, if you could all be so kind as to get involved on the commentary, I'd be ever so grateful. Do so here on 606, you can text me on 81111 (UK) or +44 7786200666 (worldwide) with FOOTBALL before your message, or you can tweet me on that there Twitter (@sampatricklyon).

The floor is all yours folks.

Pandaldinho,

Don't get me wrong, any lead in Europe is a good lead, especially if you don't concede at home.

From a personal view, it's easier for a team mentally when they know that they have an away goal from the first leg, and a respectable draw to take home and prepare aptly for the second leg.

I'd expect you both to get through, nonetheless.

on the basis of one jabbed-in goal, against a team of romanian part-timers, balotelli is surely the finest player of football ever in the history of mankind.

yeah its not as though we have 20 years of hype and superlatives every time a Man U player scores a tap in is it!

Ah, but how many of your players can assist and score in the same movement - via his nose !

Cheers, bluedefence. Enjoy your season.

Cousin Kev-

Oh, I'm sorry my admittedly quite lengthy post bored you, it's just that when I come on here I occasionally like to express some kind of opinion rather than just posting sarcastic one paragraph comments sniping at people all the time and failing to be funny. If you don't like it, don't read it, it's not my fault you quite clearly have the attention span of a goldfish.

I will support your lot against anybody south of us, except my lot.

Would be very nice if, come May, Mnachester held the top 2 spots - provided the trophy is held at OT
