Big questions from the Euros

by Ollie Williams (U9048777) 13 August 2010

Hi all - I've been enjoying 606 throughout the week, it's made very good reading while running the live text.

A question for you. Well actually, a question about questions.

What do you think are the big issues coming out of this week's European Champs in Hungary?

Now that we're into the back straight of the event, what challenges for the British team has the competition highlighted, and what do you predict for the Commonwealths (or even 2012, although of course it's still early) based on what you've seen here?

How closely will you be watching Pan Pacifics next week for comparisons with GB's achievements in Hungary? Or, with the team unrested, do results and times in Budapest stand up to much comparison?

All thoughts very welcome.

The stand out for me is the great strength on our womens side, Top of the womens medal table and un-tepered.
In terms of individual perfomances i have been pleased by many, but a few have left me feeling flat, Tadd & Haywood have been nice surprises, I personally will not be too bothered by the Americans PAN/Pacs performances as they will be fully rested, I did read a small amount of aussie swimmers are resting up for the PAN/PACS on the SMH website, I will be intrigued by how the aussies do but i will not read into it much, We always seem to perfrom when it matters, Whereas australia are not so consistent, Barratt and co. as an example, She has better quality than she has shown at champs.

My comment doesn't concern the Euros in terms of swimming, as much as in terms of the commentators. They rarely tell us anything useful about the competitors at the line up - they just yack amongst themselves and talk over every introduction - and not about the introduction! steam They need to learn from the athletics commentators

Brilliant swim from Adlington!
She is back in town.

OK , Pellegrini didn't swim,but a 4.04 after the week she's had...made my day too.

Disqualified for a break, I think.

Great swim from Adlington. Really hope it's a turning point for her now so she can handle the pressure going forward to London 2012. At the end of the day true champions triumph after a period of adversity.

Well done to the medaly relay girls on their gold too - given it was so tight at the end the illegal takeover probably made the difference so fair result I think. I am not convinced about Halsall swimming the fly leg - would prefer Lowe or Gandy on that leg so that Fran can scrap for the medals on the final leg.

Did anybody switch on to watch the swimming and not endless chat.
I can accept the chat at the end of the race with Sharon Davies ....but why is Clare Balding there, it gets a bit much when they conduct so many interviews, talk through medal ceremonies and generally detract from the atmosphere.

sorry you missed your daughters medal ceremony....many congrats to her... and good luck in 2012.

I'm glad it wasn't just me who noticed the appalling presentation by the BBC. One thing that puzzled me was how long it took yours and my comment to appear; I checked several hours later and neither yours or mine was there.
Where as the previous comment congratulating Adlington was on 7 mins after it was posted.
Presumably the BBC doesn't like complaints and just posted them when they thought no one would watching anymore.

I didn't bother watching the BBC programmes (sorry guys!). Eurosport did a good job - I particularly liked Foster's contribution.

Why oh why would the BBC want to use Clare Balding. Horses, yes but not a sport she obviously knows nothing about.

I hope whoever is responsible for swimming on TV is looking at these comments, because they are getting it all wrong.

(Same in Athletics - hopeless playing down to what they judge is a badly informed mass market).

Sorry, you can only contribute to 606 during opening hours. These are 0900-2300 UK time, seven days a week, but may vary to accommodate sporting events and UK public holidays.
