US PGA Championship - day one

comment on the article

Afternoon everyone,

It's my duty today (and indeed pleasure) to kick off the live text commentary on the first round of the USPGA Championship from Whistling Straits, Wisconsin. (It will be something of a relay - I can promise you a bit of Ben Dirs later on).

news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/gol...

We'll be getting under way at around 1245 BST, as the first players are off at 1300 (which is 0700 local time - Wisconsin is on Central Time, six hours behind BST).

While Tiger Woods has inevitably been earning plenty of column inches because of his recent slump in form, his long-term rival Phil Mickelson this week revealed that he is suffering with arthritis. But will it be one of the "usual suspects" who leads the field today, or will a lesser-known player enjoy a day in the limelight?

We'd love you to let us know what you think - so please do get involved.

typical Furyk round, ticking off the pars, occasional birdie.

Won't be far away on Sunday.

Credit where its due, that was a great par from mr Woods. That said, he is slowly but surely losing his game again :)

Had a look on the Ljunghusen Golf Club in Sweden website the other day and saw a certain mister Luke Donald holds the course record there with a 63...when did all this steady golf start then?

But for those who thought Woods would collapse to well on his way to +4 or +5 after he dropped his 1st stroke of the day rather than the -1 he still is, well they have been forced to bite their lip somewhat.

Ok he hasnt sustained his -3 from early on, but it's far from another embarassingly high score that many people thought today.

He still has some very difficult holes to play david, and I suspect he will finish the day over par ;) He will certainly make at least a double bogey before he hits the locker room.

Good 2m putt from Tiger otherwise the above mentioned double bogey was about to happen immediately. He's gone from -3 to level and is playing worse and worse. I love it <ok>

1 under par is far better than an 18 over par complete collapse.

And 18 over aint going to happen this week.
