7Matthew7: Foster has it right. The last thing that lad needs right now is the weight of a frenzied nation's expectations on his shoulders - he will have seen already how quickly the British public blows hot and cold on its idols, and how easy it is to be spat out when your name is on everyone's lips. Give the kid a break, and let him develop if he is going to, but above all acknowledge what he has done, rather than placing unreasonable demands on him.

SteveJinh: you left out the bronze medallist, too. He is of Ethiopian stock. And he will definitely have "come on" for this outing.

My goodness that was easy. So you personally don't run these distances to a certain time? But it's ok for you criticise another because of his performance in a race compared to other peoples faster time. Strange. And the point is that Gebreselassie would not be putting down other runners as he knows how hard it is. I k ow how hard Mo works, you si
Ply don't. Very easy to sit here and say things about another runner

I just want to pass on my thanks to Mo for two of the most enjoyable races in a long while. Truly exceptional.

Well we live in an open liberal democracy where all shades of opinion are aired and the BBC are a public funded body which has an obligation to represent these opinions on this forum whether they are critical or fawning

if my views are unacceptable by all means complain to the moderators who will no doubt in their infinite wisdom delete my comments
but some people just dont like the truth

Well, whatever. What I saw was someone running a sub-4 mile mostly solo after 8 laps which were somewhat more than a warm-up jog, with his last five laps each faster than the one previous - disctinctly à la Viren. And, by the way, he won the race. What more do you want? Let's not ask him to beat imaginary Africans who are not in the competition or to run a solo world record - when was that last done at 5K in a major championships? Forget ye not, the day will arrive when you'll be quite content just to be able to make it to the shops and back.

A true champion who can get better after this tremendous week for British Athletics.
Brendan Foster summed it all up and said let him enjoy this moment with his family and then consider the future.
All his hard work is paying off and it is not just talent because I do not think he is as talented as the African Nations.
I hope his future blossoms.

i dont run either distance as they are too short,i have never timed myself as i dont measure myself to such mortal fallible manufactured man made constructs like "kilometres.miles, minutes and seconds"
------------------------------
Is that long-winded, incredibly pompous B.S. for ‘dead slow’? You can’t break 20 for 5K, can you?

That notwithstanding, you’re clearly happy to measure others against ‘such mortal fallible manufactured’ etc etc – others who are clearly in a different league to you. If he’s mediocre what do you consider yourself?

I’ll bet his 15 mile easy runs are faster per mile than your best mile. As for your comment re the moderators, this is a forum (look it up) where people can disagree with others without finding comments unacceptable. Stupid – definitely, but if we involved the moderators for stupidity they’d be somewhat overworked, thanks to berks like you. Now toddle off on your 9-minute mile crawl, there’s a good lad.

Yes Mo's 2.25 last 1000m in the 5000 was very sluggish & mediocre. LOL
