As an arch critic of the LTA and the deplorable state of GB tennis (ex Murray) it is only fitting to congratulate Team GB on beating Turkey and avoiding relegation to the outer reaches of the Twilight Zone.

Of course it is a tie we should have won, but nonetheless we did and stopped the rot and the journey to the abyss.

It was good to see new captain, Leon Smith, acting like a captain and a first success cements him in the role - and the start of a very long journey.

Long journey it will be, make no mistake, as the competition this week was less than stellar in the bottom reaches of Group II (Europe).

But ignominy was avoided and there was at last a sense of team and pride and determination to win.

I'll not pretend that this is some historic victory, nor that we are suddenly going to be world beaters - our level is what it is.

Nonetheless, we had a "team" and they got the job done and we don't have to hang our heads in shame.

So congratulations and let's hope this is just the tiniest green shoot of better things to come.

Elainepriscilla - you were waving a flag and shouting - what for? It was a relegation battle between the worst set of British players ever to represent their country against a bunch of no hopers. Haven't you got anything better to do?

Maybe Elaine was having an enjoyable day or two at Eastbourne with her mates ... I would say your negative rant against something you're not interested in is quite pitiful. Maybe you should stick to supporting a big fish in a small pond.

And you wouldn't support your team/National side in a relegation battle?

Or even as far as Footie is concerned to make the important international events? Do you walk away?

Do you walk away?
Yes. Frankly I oould play better than this lot and for less money. Why can Spain and why can UK not? Even the posters here are below par. Everything to do with UK tennis (except Murray, who was trained in Spain, although unfortunately his brain stayed Scottish) is below par.
