As an arch critic of the LTA and the deplorable state of GB tennis (ex Murray) it is only fitting to congratulate Team GB on beating Turkey and avoiding relegation to the outer reaches of the Twilight Zone.
Of course it is a tie we should have won, but nonetheless we did and stopped the rot and the journey to the abyss.
It was good to see new captain, Leon Smith, acting like a captain and a first success cements him in the role - and the start of a very long journey.
Long journey it will be, make no mistake, as the competition this week was less than stellar in the bottom reaches of Group II (Europe).
But ignominy was avoided and there was at last a sense of team and pride and determination to win.
I'll not pretend that this is some historic victory, nor that we are suddenly going to be world beaters - our level is what it is.
Nonetheless, we had a "team" and they got the job done and we don't have to hang our heads in shame.
So congratulations and let's hope this is just the tiniest green shoot of better things to come.
