The one thing worse than the football: Mick McCarthy's commentary. Is there a duller, more negative commentator in (any) sport??? He is shocking. Red card!

i didnt think the game was as bad as the panel and commentators were making out ,there was effort and energy but the defences both played great and stayed on top thats how it goes sometimes.
9 ? yellow cards does not indicate a game both sides are happy to draw

The Ivory Coast.. the best African team in view of their performance against North Korea today..is out with 4 points..

Brazil played poorly today and Portugal's only victory in this tournament will remain the win over North Korea

Couldn't agree more re Mick McCarthy's commentary. With his dreadfully dull boring voice I cannot understand how he got a job as a commentator with the BBC. I think the Brazil - Portugal match was his last at the World Cup. If only it were his last ever!

I agree. Really spoilt the game for me with his banal comments and lack of any value. Not sure why he expected a goal bonanza. If he was the manager of a team facing Brazil in such circumstances, would he go for all out attack? Of course not, it was about points and potentially goal difference, not entertaining neutral supporters. Please don't use him again BBC.

Rubbish, rubbish, more rubbish.
Today was the first time I could warm to McCarthy because he told it exactly as it was - only one team wanted to play and it wasn't Portugal. Understandable yes, as he said, but don't blame Brazil. If most any team, let alone a team which could actually play if they wanted to, decide to defend from the edge of their own area, they can expect to scramble a draw.

Thank goodness most of the horrible negative teams like Greece, Switzerland and Denmark are out, but Portugal have been little better. Pity 'cos I liked Queroz at Man U., but hopefully Spain will put them out of their misery.

McCarthy is handicapped by his voice I know, but I think he's talked sense at this tournament, unlike the really boring (and voice-handicapped) Shearer and plenty of others.
