Rooney -Is He Really Fit to Play in WC?

World Cup England
comment on the article

The latest report from the England camp that all is well with Rooney is a tad puzzling. It's about the third time in a week where they've been at pains to reassure the country that all is well with Rooney. You are never so adamant to reassure if all is okay. It smacks of a cover-up with regard to his true level of fitness if you ask me. Not saying he's completely crocked. But I believe he's being asked to play through a pain barrier that would normally require quite a bit of rest. I suspect SAF has been asked to stay silent in the cause by his man, who is so desperate to be part of this WC. England have unfortunately made themselves 100% reliant on him, as his absence would have had a devastating impact on England's morale.

I don't think Rooney will actually score many goals this summer, if at all. What he will do though is get man-marked, and draw defenders in. Hopefully allowing space for others, much the way we would deal with Ronaldo or Messi.
I'd feel better though if Capello had played at least 45 minutes without Rooney, to get an alternative option for if he does get injured.

BASED ON WHAT? Rooney has said he is fit. Have you got access to his medical files or a crystal ball? A post about nothing at all...

Also I want to add another point, Ken (U525657) saying that Rooney isn't playing well in an England shirt it would seem your judgment is based entirely upon him scoring goals.
Not exactly his best performance against Mexico but still a threat, his passing was second to none and work rate was as always exemplary.

Ridgey

You're whistling in the wind mate. Seriously, he's a centre forward so if he doesn't score in a game he's had a bad game - that's the level of debate on here mate sometimes.

I dont think rooney wanted to put himself in a position to be injured on monday and never really hit top gear. Even saying that he was ok against mexico just didnt see much of the ball.

Might be conspiracy theory but i think rooneys inclusion was to do with the 2018 bid and showing faith in the wembley pitch after it had been accused of being so poor that it could cause injuries. Prob way off the mark but dont think its too far fetched tbh.

Im sure we will see a different rooney against the states. Do think there is too much pressure on the guy tho, rest of the team are hardly mugs.

danny_1982 - What is Rooneys scoring record like for England?
The other thing about Rooney he wont be protected by the officials and allowed to get away with murder, like he is in England, the first thing that will happen when Rooney gets fouled and not get a free kick is that he will run after the bloke and "get him back" or just give a shed load of abuse at the referee and either get booked or sent off - his temperment will let him down
I am not saying he is not a good player but he is not the "world beater" people and the media hype him up to be...

happy you have to learn to give people a chance- the english attitude of condeming and judging people this early isnt a good trait.

in other countries like argentina/france and brazil players are loved with a passion . imagine marradona or zidane were english-- YOU WOULD CONDEME them.. its pretty silly really.

rooney is a great player and a massive asset to the world cup whatever happens to england..
