Spain's 23-man squad announced

comment on the article

Del Bosque has announced the squad:

De Gea, Diego López, Azpilicueta, SENNA, Negredo, Güiza and Cazorla are the ones left out.

VALDÉS IS IN!

So are Pedro and Javi Martínez.

Squad:

Casillas
Reina
Valdés

Albiol
Arbeloa
Capdevila
Marchena
Piqué
Puyol
Sergio Ramos

Xabi Alonso
Busquets
Cesc
Iniesta
Javi Martínez
Silva
Xavi

Navas
Mata
Pedro
Llorente
Fernando Torres
Villa.

Senna out and Valdés in I think are the biggest surprises.

Ferdinand is good on the ball, non?

I don't think he is any worse at it than the likes of Marchena, Puyol and Albiol

Ferdinand wouldn't replace Puyol imo. Puyol looks clumsier than he actually is, and I think he's got the speed to compensate for Piqué's relative lack of it. It's all opinions though. <ok>

only a fool would write torres isnt important to spain! after all he only scored the winner in the euro champs final, no ifs or buts its a fact. torress is the best striker on the planet when fit, even at half fittnes he bangs the ball in back of net

I've got Xavi in my fantasy team is he going to be fit or not? Haven't heard much about him after Iniesta picked up that knock against Poland

Sorry, but in response tot he initial comment as quoted on the BBC website, Rooney would command a place in any team in the world. John Terry or Rio Ferdinand would most likely be the centre backs too, or if not, in an extremely competitive situation with Pique et al. And Gerrard and Lampard would definately be pushing for a place. Admittedly, the combination of Xavi and Iniesta would probably be selected but it'd still be very tight!

-----------
Terry and Ferdinand are not at the level of Pique and Puyol, Rooney is a Top Class player, but I'll not choose him over Villa, in my opinion the best 9 in the world, and re midfield, Lampard or gerrard, in spite of their quality can only aspire to be understudies of the Spanish midfield.

My team would be:-

--------------------Casillas-------------------

Ramos---------Pique----------Terry---------Cole

--------Gerrard------Xavi-------Iniesta------

--------------------Rooney-------------------

----------------Villa----Torres--------------

Yes mate. He's a far better option that Busquets imo, and as good a player as Alonso is, he is not a proper DM and it tells.

That aside, I can't understand why we chose to play 2 holding midfielders against a team that we knew were going to sit back and wait for us.
