The worlds top two player have been head to head for the last 10 years. This week, an off form Tiger will be Taking on an on form Phil, not ruling out the other players in the field though.

If Mickelson wins the Players Championship and Tiger Woods finishes outside the Top 5 we will see the thirteenth World Number One in the 24 year history of the Official World Golf Ranking.

So Tiger and Phil aside their are still many other player that can come through and win. McIlroy? Furyk? Poulter? Only Sunday will tell.

1) who do i think will win the players championship and why?

Someone with a strong driving game but can handle the quick greens. If the wind blows it will be another factor into the mix to handle too.

Im liking Westwood a lot, and ive got good feelings about Hunter Mahan.

If the wind blows, I think it could play into the hands of Stephen Ames who has a terrific record at the event, or Mike Weir.

Two 'outsiders' i think with a genuine chance that i will follow closely would be Ricky Fowler and Bubba Watson.

2) Who out of Tiger of Phil has the best chance?

Dont think either will contend, but Phil has the better chance.

Tiger has a poor record relatively speaking in the event (although has won it once and did finish second on another occasion). Play at the Masters and Quail Hollow has been less than convincing. But then again, never rule him out.

Phil looked to be playing ok last week but not getting the rewards for it. Seemed to struggle with his distances but will no doubt be able to get that sorted with Butch, and he is the ideal man to handle the thick greenside rough.

I think the pressure on both of them will be to much, best they might acheive is a top 25 finish.
The USA players no longer dominate, in these events, and would think that Els along with Europeans will dominate top 5 spots.

Mickelson seems to be lapping up the pressure just now. McIlroy is obviously on a high. Poulter needs to win something soon. Tiger's not swinging well enough. I'm going for Els. He's a solid competitor and due a big win.

There's more pressure on Tiger, Phils already playin great and would have won only for the wonder kid at QH. I'd fancy Phil to finish higher than Tiger as Tiger seems to have a lot to work on to turn it round (by his standards).

Ernie Els is the best player so far this year, according to the world rankings, he's in with a shout this week. Mickelson will be there or thereabouts, he's on fire.

Can you believe last years champion, Stenson, is currently 111 in world rankigs points for this year!?

I think it's wide open, which is great for us fans.

Apparently Woods put it in the water 5 times during practice yesterday. Not the best preparation!

I've had 50 each way on Furyk, got a feeling he will be there or thereabouts come Sunday night. And a little side-bet on Stephen Ames, just because he has got such a good record at this event.

It's a shame that Harrington is playing like a clown, a couple of years ago I thought he would go on and win many majors but I doubt he'll ever win another tournament he has completely lost his form. He will be out of the top fifty by the end of the season.
