Congrats to Twente and McClaren

European Football
comment on the article

McClaren left England and looking for a new job was hard to come by. Until a little club in Holland called FC Twente called him and said there were offering him the job their.

In two season at the football club he's turned them from Mid-table finishers into a Championship winning side.

Well done McClaren and his Boys you deserve the Dutch title and have done brilliant this season to win it. Looking forward to seeing you in the Champions League next season.

Very well done from, too.
Fair is fair and you have to respect what McLaren has done and how he bounced back.
And all this in a foreign league, that takes guts so all the praise is well deserved.
I hope he tops is with a solid CL run next year by either taking them to KO Stages or go to the EL and go on a run there......

After that maybe go on to something bigger!

It's like taking Villa to win the EPL. As an ajax fan i must congratulate them, they were on top almost all season and somehow kept their nervs in final weeks when Ajax was crushing every possible opponent in their last 14 games. As much as i hate it that ajax didn't win it, congrats Twente and McClaren. No please go to Wolfsburg !

Hardly! Twente finished fourth in the season before McClaren came and were well on the up.

Nevertheless great job Steve.

I dunno bout all the "they were on the way up anyway". The league has been dominated by Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord for years. He's done a great job there and proved he is a good club coach. Rubbish for England but he did well for Boro when he was there and look where they are now.

Nice to see him shake off a bit of the clueless tag he was given and i hope he goes on to do well again.

Well done Steve but this sadly does not change the fact that you were a cr@p England Manager. <cheers>

You have to congratulate Steve McClaren on a fantastic achievement, its difficult for a British manager to actually get noticed on these shores, the teams who want to win things generally go foreign, Manchester United being the obvious exception although we will only find out their mentality when Fergie calls it a day.

McClaren is a very good coach and a very good manager, he done well with Boro and Alex Ferguson had even earmarked him as his replacement years ago when he first thought about retiring, after the England debacle, and if we are being honest, thats exactly what it was, he had get away, he has done the right thing although I did think he could have got a better job than little old Twente.

The job he has done their is remarkable, if you look at Ajax performances and results all season as well as some pretty special individual performances from Luis Suárez then its almost unthinkable that anyone other than Ajax could win the title, so doing it has been an excellent achievement and becoming the first man to lead FC Twente to the Eredivisie, the guy will live forever in Enschede now.

I'd like to see Steve stay away from England now, he has rebuilt his reputation and shown brilliant character, he could well be the next Roy Hodgson and Roy himself found it easier to get a bigger job abroad than on his own doorstep.

As an Ajax fan, I feel a little disheartened that the title has escaped us this season, but Twente have been solid throughout. McClaren has done a great job, and made vast improvements on his awful decision making as England boss. We were praying for them to drop points towards the end, they just didn't drop enough.

Still, I think we can reflect very positively on the season. A lot better than the last couple of years, and our goal difference speaks for itself. We'll be back at the top in a short while. Let's hope for an easy Champions League qualifier, Tottenham perhaps...

Yes he does a great job AWAY from england!

He is a hero in Europe but in England he was called 'Mac the marrow' and took the national side to its lowest ebb. He took £2.5 million in compensation from the England job and a big grin all the way.

We are all worried he may come back PLEASE keep him a Twente. It's massive for Twente and they need to defend it. Fantastic achievement.

We don't want him back in this country ANY time soon PLEASE. <OK>

He would be doing well to stay away from England, he would have no benefit going to a mundane club with absolutely no chance of success like Aston Villa, Newcastle or Birmingham or Blackburn, he is best served staying abroad or even going to Scotland and trying his hand in different leagues, at least he will be offered a decent job outside of England
