Live - Thursday's football

Europa League
comment on the article

Champions League, er, Schampions League - we've won it often enough over the past few years anyway.

Thursday sees the two remaining British clubs left in Europe attempt to reach the semi-finals of the Europa League - and both have difficult tasks ahead.

Fulham take a slender 2-1 advantage to Bundesliga champions Wolfsburg, while Liverpool entertain Benfica, 2-1 down from their first leg.

You can follow all the action on a potentially cracking night of football right here, as usual - and don't forget to have your say to boot.

I dont understand some United fans on here. Liverpool deserved to get through tonight and they stand a chance of winning a trophy. I rather be in the Europa League then out of the CL. With Chelsea winning the PL, United will finish with only the Carling cup this season. Not exactly a successful year, esp since United is the best club in the whole world! Even better than Barca so I have heard.

You might have a fair point, but loyalty is central to the mentality of the club. We are the only top club to have not sacked a manager mid season EVER. I dont want that to change, we should give managers a chance and then they can build on it and become successful. Under your vision of football, Fergie would have been sacked not just once, but many times
--------------
Fergie will loath the UEFA cup. Thats the difference. Benitez took Torres off when Liverpool needed a win to fight for fourth place because of Europa and you guys are here celebrating when you are far from champions league football next season? Fergie will do no such thing except the opponent is City and you can understand why. If City or spurs get their hands on that Champions league money Liverpool will be in trouble because: 1) There is no youth team to pick players from 2) They can't afford players unless they sell. Liverpool are going down. You supporters should do something before a club I consider great disappears from the elite which is where it is heading to

On the Zamora issue, I'm pretty sure Defoe or Crouch will partner Rooney, the best Zamora can hope for is a bench place. But saying that, is it a certainty that we will play 2 up front against the big guns?

Thats the problem, we are in a financed driven game. Unlike Barcelona where the name generates its own cash due to the TV right system in Spain, without investment we cannot compete with City, so there is no point going against the team, they need our support

If Liverpool play in the Europa next season they will find it hard to make the top four again. UEFA season starts in June or July

Wayne The Bulldog Rooney, the question is do you think he merits a place, not will he get a place.
I've already said why he merits it you've said he doesn't but you haven't said why.

Maybe the UEFA Europa league is a bit like the way when you watch the Confederations Cup, it's not like real war between teams while the World Cup, Champions League seem to be.

And like I said, there are enough farcical calls in the Champions League to make it a mickey mouse competition as well, not saying the Bayern game was that but some games are.

Congrats Liverpool and Fulham as is said, they saved England's blushes!

2 of 4 teams in the semifinals, quite good.

cheers

I didn't say he hasn't merited a place, I said I wasn't convinced. He's in great form but so are other strikers. Capello will make the right choice I'm sure.
