Contenders for the Green Jacket

Masters

As the build up to the much anticipated first major of the season gets ever nearer it is time to have a look at the most likely winners of the famous green jacket. There is of course many possible winners, Tiger Woods shall be left out for now as it is clearly unknown if he shall return.

The favourites:

Phil Mickelson: Shall be considered the favourite in the absence of Woods and with 2 Augusta titles already he is coming into form at the right time. Odds of 5/1

Ernie Els: Back in form at the right time and I don't think this is just a purple patch, he looks like he has found his game. Worth a punt at 28/1

Padraig Harrington: Is right in the zone once again and you just know he should be up there at these majors. Reasonable value at 14/1.

Possibles:

Lee Westwood: He has been up there with a chance in a couple of majors now and has not exactly choked under the pressure. 18/1

Paul Casey: He said he is finding the form of his career and has been there or thereabouts at Augusta. 22/1

Camilo Villegas: Has the youth and energy on his side and looks to be becoming the best of the younger crop at the moment. 30/1

Others which have a chance: Stricker 16/1, Mcilroy 16/1, Ogilvy 18/1, Goosen 25/1, Garcia 28/1, Poulter 28/1, Furyk 28/1, Kim 33/1.

I can't see anyone not mentioned here winning.

Tiger will still be the favourite.

What odds can you get on him to win the masters right now?

Ezio,
Justin Rose not yet qualified; he has the Transitions and Bay Hill to move up the approximately (depending on what happens in PR today) necessary ten places in the owgr.

Casey....picked him out last year and think he's an even better chance this year...

Like Kaymer as well though...

Ernie is a funny one at the Masters. He had a great run up to 2005 and then it all went a bit off the rails... I'm thinking that his knee caused him massive problems there. If this last win is an indication that things are finally sorted then I expect good things from him at Augusta. If not then I think another missed cut is on the cards for him. Remember that the last time Ernie made the cut at Augusta was in 2006

I think Phil could be in with a shout. If his family are doing well and he can spend some time practising before the event then I think he could contend. It looked like he had the two driver strategy going again at Doral and he maybe gearing up for the same thing at Augusta.
