So what if he got 99?

comment on the article

So what? So plenty! I have not been shy about airing my opinions vis a via KP and his recent run of poor form. However, given today's knock I wish to retract previous remarks.
Yes, it's only Bangladesh and all that. And yes, they bowled dreadfully for most of the day.

BUT... the chap came up trumps today. He has shown he's got the mettle to overcome the demons that must haunt any out-of-touch batsman. Now, left arm spin seems to threaten him less than before and we who watch can retire from the edge of the seat.

Bangladesh or South Africa it matters not a jot: when you're enemy is not a lack of ability but a lack of confidence it doesn't really matter who's bowling at you.

So well done indeed KP. He deserved the three figures but--after getting over the disappointment of missing out on that--I'm sure he'll be delighted at having slain more important dragons.

Happy to see KP getting more than 20 again. However, as the Bangladeshi's said, they expected the wicket to turn; it didn't. Let's see how KP plays left arm spin when the wicket does turn before handing out the congratulations. It's not that it's only Bangladesh in my eyes at all; if he plays consistently well against their spin, I do think that's something great to write home about.

Good start for KP, but he hasn't turned it around with one score in my eyes. I hope he continues this form throughout the series. Then we can say, he's back to form.

I was going to say KP has ground out loads of runs before he just had a lean spell after a long period out injured...its a typical English approach to rush someone back before they have had a chance to build form and confidence then slate them when they don't perform.
Class is perminant and KP is a big game player! Hopefully this will be a spring board but 1 knock doesn't make everything better!

Stunning performance. 99 vs Bangladesh, I guess he's a world beater again. Well played KP!

@ 606AllRounder - is it possible for him to succeed against Bangladesh. 0 is a failure, 100 is easy?

A lot of his loss of form was mental, this knock will hopefully have put his mind at ease.

Another very nice day in the life of an England cricket fan. We are certainly playing a lot of good stuff these days and long may it continue. I do not care who we are playing, as long as we continue to play like this.

Pieterson's 99 is better than 'nought', what a welcome return to form, congrats. KP. Your game style seemed totally careful and committed, not 'this is the way I play'. You were humble enough to pay tribute to Andy Flower who always had faith in you. You have also paid tribute to Rahul Dravid for his tips to you. All this is much appreciated coming from you. Wish you good luck. <applause>

Pietersen at the crease. England are 230 for 2 wickets in this glorious first test match against Australia. His knocks of 99 and 115 have really boosted his confidence and now he comes out to bat.

Oh my god, did you see that? He left his bat in the stands with the fans, he tried to bat the ball with his hand but missed and he's out for a duck!

Maybe in the next innings he will perform again! Err no, he manages to hit 3 balls with his hand but on the fourth ball, he's out!

After the match Pietersen had this to say: "I'm so good, I don't even need a bat to play against Australia. Look at my two centuries in Bangladesh, aren't I good?"

Luke Wright had this to say: "When will the selectors grow balls and pick me instead?"
