International Tests England

Interview on cricinfo with Cook suggests this is his preferred team.
With Broad not match fit is this a sensible team? Two spinners seems a lot of eggs in one basket.

To be frank, Pietersen, though his form looks pretty rubbish at the moment. I don't see why Trott "deserves another chance". On balance, he deserves a run in the team, but his claims on the number three position look pretty modest to me.

Boooo to that six batsman policy, spoils all the fun.
Good call though, given the choice of not losing and the possibility of losing - in his first test match as Captain! - It could be the former - with that batting line up with Bresnan at 11!
If its a flat one and we can't get them out - I pity the two fools charging in!

Ok I know we've 'lost' a couple of our best bowlers, but here we are all getting our knickers twisted about playing Bangladesh.

It's a banana skin anyway - do well and it will be said it's only Bangadesh.

Lose and 606 will drop half the team straightaway! <smiley>

Kipper - 606 have already dropped half the team, we don't wait for a result.

Please no Bresnan.

He must be the most innocous seamer to have ever played for England. I would even rather Pattinson than him and he was awful.

I would like to see how Finn fairs and looks in the test arena. I am not a big Bresnan fan. However I cant see them picking Finn in a 4 bowler line up with Tredwell. Not going to happen unless broad is injured.

Bresnan it is.

Look, if we can't beat this lot then it's time to pack up.

We should beat them even if we only had one innings to their two.

So I can't see that it matters what the balance of the team is.

May as well try a few guys out here, won't get a better chance to do so for a while.

There is no point in playing any Test with only 4 bowlers, two of which will be spinners, especially against Bangladesh. We should not need 6 specialist batsmen, not with Prior, Broad and Swann in the team. The joker who suggested that we should play for a draw and hope that the injuries clear up should is I hope (a joker). A draw is only likely if it rains, or if Bangladesh manage to score 600 in one innings!

Come on, let's be realistic; they are still learning the ropes, and should be encouraged to continue in Test cricket, but they are not there yet.

Pietersen has to be persevered with, as this is a golden opportunity to recover some form.

My team would be:
Cook
Carberry
Pietersen
Bell
Collingwood
Prior
Broad
Swann
Tredwell
Shahzad
Plunkett

In fact if Broad is injured I would go for Shahzad, Finn and Plunkett. Let's give youth a chance for a change. It is refreshing to see 4 medium-fast bowlers of 25 or less in an England Squad. Give them a chance and build for the future.

You would drop Trott and give the innocuous Plunkett a Test ahead of the much better looking Finn and Shahzad?
