D.Bent has got to go to the world cup.
If anything happens to Rooney god forbid he is the only natual finisher right at the top of the scoring charts bar Ronney.
Like bruce said imagine how many goals this guy would score if this guy was getting all the chances the likes of Man U and Chelsea create.
He is playing in a poor team yet still scoring for fun.

Bent is better than Defoe, Crouch and Cole.

Crouch is a circus act (who has scored for england against 3rd rate nations) Defoe isnt a consistent goal scorer against top defences. Bent has nowt to prove

---

How can Bent have nothing to prove when he doesn't have an England goal to his name? People like you think all he has to do is turn up and suddenly England will be a force to be reckoned with. Not all players can make the step up, no matter how prolific they are at domestic level, and Bent has not shown that he can step up.

Crouch, like most players, has played most of his games against poorer nations. But he can score against decent teams too, when given the chance - Egypt are the African Cup of Nations winners after all. He's a skilful player who knows where the net is, and causes a lot of problems for opposition defenders.

Under Capello, Defoe has started scoring more regularly, though his best role is as a substitute (as the Egypt game showed once again). 8 goals in two and a bit years isn't bad, including two against Holland.

If Bent goes we wont win the WC. Useless player who time and time again fails at international level when given the chance. I would of had Owen ahead of him but now it will be Crouch.

Bent sadly is the sort of player who thrives on being a big fish in a little pond ... - its an ego thing unfortunately

-----------------------

That's exactly what he would be in the England team - a big fish in a little pond!

Bent is not international quality as he cannot contibute meaningfully to the 'style' of football England need to play.

He has also failed to take any of the goal scoring opportunities that have come his way in his 5 England appearences.

Well done to him for getting 18 goals in a poor team, but a few of those were penalties.

Defore is also not good enough.

I think England will have a successful World Cup but Bent, Defoe, Agbonlahor....etc will not make any difference to England's chances.

No. Don't take Bent. What's the point?

Already got;

Rooney
Defoe
Heskey
Cole
Crouch

Bent would just be a waste of space in South Afrcia.

So, WOW, he scored a hat trick against a Bolton side on a damp soggy night.

Rooney, Crouch, Heskey and Defoe WILL be the four taken.

Crouch should be first choice partner for Rooney, he can do most of what Heskey does and actually scores too though he isn't wuite as strong or fast.

Heskey is a proven good combination with Rooney and Defoe is our best goal poacher full stop.

Bent is good, but lots of good players can look great when playing for mediocre teams, it doesn't make them internationals. Same story with Cole, Davies and Zamora.

Bent wouldn't kick snow off a rope! End off!

He's a joke and probably has ambitions to play for Charlton, suit him down to the ground!

Crouch - proven at international level, good england scoring record, gives england another dimension

Defoe - 11 international goals, good scoring form for tottenham, backup for rooney

Heskey - experience of playing at international level, good target man, can play alongside rooney upfront, but not a goalscorer

Darren Bent - not proven at international level

Carlton Cole - not proven at international level

Hence..in all likelihood, the strikers guaranteed a World Cup place are Rooney, Crouch, Defoe and Heskey. If a 5th striker is taken, then perhaps DB or CC have a chance..

However, if there is a striker's injury crisis..it would be better if we take either Ashley Young or Agbonlahor..with intention of playing them as a forward.
