Unlucky to Our young Laura Robson who lost her second OZ Open in a row. There is one thing for certain though, she is a major talent for the future and lets hope she makes her mark on the womens game in the next Couple of year.

She can certainly be a top 20 player. People say we are always hypocritical in Britain with talent, but we also have to realise we can also overhype players.Laura is doing really well, but there is a huge differance between reaching a junior final and being able to mix it with the like of the Williams sisters. Just as much as people should not knock success, they should also hold back on over expectation. If she can be a top 20 player in her career, and who knows maybe a top 10, then she will have acheived alot.

"She don't look physically to strong. She will get stronger only 16"Compared to where she was last year and when she won at Wimbledon, she's so much stronger. If she's firing, which she didn't last night, she overpowers these girls for fun. For someone so young she's got a lot of power.
It might not be a bad thing for Robson to lose. She'll be more motivated to be successful and win the next time!!! She a great talent and a future champion if she keeps down, works hard and focus.
Sorry Thommo,Apologies for the earlier post that must of got deleted. I'd been mistaken, thinking it was you that mentioned the 'choke', when it was another poster in the thread.

I dont think that Lauras people are looking after her. If she was in the womens singles then if she reached the secondf round she would have won AUD$31000.
this is a bit of interesting trivia.;if you lost in the first round at the Australian Open you would have received prizemoney of AUD 19500.I always thought that Milton Freedman was a prick and now i know there is free lunch
People need to put that into perspective though. For your average journeyman (woman) in tennis, the 19500 for losng in the first round has to pay for your flights, accomodation and backup team and then likely goes towards paying for your expenses for the satelite tournaments etc... outside the top 50 or so players, I presume most guys scrape a living from tennis. If you make the top bracket then of course you can make millions.
Im not knocking the free lunch of $19.5k but maybe this should be called appearance money.there were over 650 thousand people attended the australian open and somebody said it is the biggest sporting event in the Southern Hemisphere(most things in australia are the biggest in the Southern hemisphere).Incidentally none of the participants looked as if they were destitute or needed a feed.
Alot of the people who made the first round had to go through a zillion rounds of qualifying first, so no it should not be called appearance money. If you had watched the long winded presentation to Federer after the game, you may have noticed a substantial amount of money going to Haiti - I think Fed was heavily involved in raising the money.

"I dont think that Lauras people are looking after her. If she was in the womens singles then if she reached the secondf round she would have won AUD$31000."She lost in the qualifiers for the main draw... that is the only reason she was in the girls draw... get your facts right!
