Fair enough, we can now concentrate on the league without having another fixture to clog up our list. But this defeat is only going to smash the squad's morale - he only made four changes to the side and we've been torn to shreds by a clearly superior footballing team. Not only does this highlight the team's paper thin squad, but also that we aren't the best team in this division, not by any stretch. In three games against Forest and West Brom, we've been played off the park and been lucky to scrape two points from the league games.

At this rate and the form we're in (fair enough this is our first defeat in 14 games but you know what I'm getting at - the level of performances) we will be lucky to make the play-offs. Being humilated by a team two places below us does nothing to quell the fears we are going to drop away from the top of this division.

Riccall - to be fair we did the double over you last year and have drawn twice in the league this year. At the moment you are playing better football than us but you are hardly our bogey team.

as a newcastle supporter for 40 years i have seen some very good and very bad newcastle teams lucky and unluck but this is the first time i can say i hve seen us loose a game due to a ref? and assistant ref both seemed happy to give none stop crazy decisions im not sure if the assistant ref was trying to outdo the ref with stupid decisions .i thought we would get beaten after monday nights game and admit west brom should have won . but for 2 of the officials to try and put that result right today is not on. how come we had players injured by foul tackles and no names taken why was taylor sent off he wasn't the last man where as we had names taken just because we are on the pitch . does anyone know why our keeper was booked after all he was awarded the free kick or was the ref leveling up the decision to give us a second free kick. joking apart this makes me seriously worried over the type of ref coming into the game. a bad game by the 2 poor officials

I agree with lukeyboy, we were robbed. We should of atleast got a 2-2 draw - the referee was a mackem or atleast got some money slipped in his pocket by the WBA manager. We should of had atleast a penalty when shola went down! and their first pen...wasn't a pen!

The ball was surely over the line in the first goal, but the first penalty did seem harsh. However, this takes nothing from the scoreline, which was a fair result.

Speaking as a fan of more than fourty years, Albion are presently a *hit hot side, too classy for absolutely any team in the division on a good day, and far too good to stay in the second tier. And speaking as objectively as I can, they'll only miss automatic promotion if their awful lack of consistency lets them down.

Having said that, Newcastle should never have gone down last season, and was always destined to bounce back. Great side, great tradition, and great fans. This little humiliation will only serve to galvanise the team, so be grateful it was at the hands of West Brom, and not Peterborough.

Good luck to you when we meet again next year...

Fair enough Newcastle didnt play well enough yesterday to get anything else but a defeat, but I was at the game and after Carroll scored our first Newcastle were on top for about 10 minutes and we're denied a blaten penalty. The referee was absolutely appauling and if decisions had went our way it could have been a different scoreline completely. And to all you west brom fans going on about video's of us crying when we got relegated, maybe it was because we had 16 years in the premiership and getting relegated for you boys is a yearly thing, have u ever had more than a year in the prem? Also your attendance was 16,102 yesterday, 4 and a half thousand was newcastle fans haha! You got out sung all game aswell, have a little word with yourselves.

Hopefully we get u in the FA cup again next season cause you'll still be stuck in the fizzy pop season next year.

same old toon. even if the ref was useless (he was) we should not give up 4 goals to a main rival team.tighten up and grind away game results is the only way(see leeds).back to doom and gloom.oh i forgot it wasnt an earthquake was it.only a footy match after all.

How can any Baggies fan be proud of that result? Its taken 13 men in a game for you to beat us at all this season... and as for you chanting 'top of the league, you're having a laugh' well, we are, and you're not - hopefully your shallow comments will come back to bite you on the butt - with no cup win and staying in the Championship.

I think that this is just the win west brom needed to get back onto the form we were on at the start of the season. I mean you can't get more momentum than from beating the club in first place, well not in first place for long!!!

You can't just say that the ref made you loose the game. I mean we beat beat you by skill, not by luck. Newcastle were lucky to only loose 4-2. So I can't see how you Newcastle fans can be compaining. U bunch of big girls.
