Vintage Westwood with Rory hanging on!

European Tour
comment on the article

What a shot on the 18th by Lee Lee Westwood. Another 66 to start - let's hope its the start of even better to come as we all know what happened last week. Great to see the two players head to head today. I thought the looks on the 17th after the respective putts dropped were a massive clue to their thinking and mind set. Lee was certainly making a "senior player" statement today. Rory may become the biggest star in the sport but just for this moment in time Lee seems set to come out on top. Round 1 to Lee, game is definitely on. Great spectacle!

Westwood def came out on top today but he has to win to def take the race to Dubai. Remember he is not just competing with Rory. There is plenty of players who could go on and win the title. Look at the likes of Allenby. Even if Westwood finishes ahead of Rory it has to be a decent amount at the top of the table and both players are capable of shooting a 66 or better on one of the days.
I watched a fair bit of the golf this morning and there seems to be a good score out there if they can put all the aspects together. It is going to be a good weekand of golf.

Keep an eye on Chris Wood . He seems to like a big occasion .
I would not be surprised to see him in the Ryder Cup team next year .
Good golfer , great bloke .

Cheery.

There are not plenty of players who can win the Race to Dubai. There are 4. And two of those need very specific circumstances to occur in order for that to happen. The only players who win the R2D regardless of where the others finish if they win are RM and LW.

Allenby cannot win the Race to Dubai even if he wins from my understanding.

Wait a minute TWW, did you watch the golf today? Lee and Rory are nos 1 and 2 in the race, they played together today, both played some superb shots and it was a great tussle to watch. Are you suggesting we should be banned from mentioning this because it seems like ass kissing. Sorry mate, but this is a golf forum and great stuff like today will always get and deserve mention.

Londonjohnnyo, I meant there were a fair few who could win this week and take the descision out of Westwood and Rorys hands. Look at how many great scores came in today. Both players could fail to even finish top 3 with how many people are playing great golf. Allenby, Wood are just 2 of them.

I do look down the field and find it quite funny to see Villegas there. Probably will go and win the thing the tournament but its a real struggle to make any connection with him and the European Tour.

And you poms reckon us Aussies are biased in our sporting coverage??????????
This takes the cake!!!

"The Race to Dubai standings after round one:

Lee Westwood (-6) - Joint 2nd"

and

"But his closest rival Westwood went two better, firing five birdies on the back nine to finish one shot off first-round leader Robert Allenby on seven under"

That's it???

Give me a break! Anyone who knows anything about golf knows Allenby has played through a lot more than Westwood or Mc what's- his-name! Yet that's the only mention of Allenby in the whole report!

I expect better from the BBc!
