Live - Reaction to Ireland's exit

World Cup
comment on the article

Scandal, outrage, disappointment and bemusement.

How must the Republic of Ireland's players, staff and supporters be feeling this morning? I'd imagine some or all of the words above - and a fair few others besides - probably fit in there somewhere.

The Irish kicked off at Le Stade de France on Wednesday trailing 1-0 from the first leg of their World Cup play-off against France, dominated for much of the ensuing 120-odd minutes, and yet will not be competing in next summer's Finals in South Africa because of a blatant handball.

Need a forum for your outrage? A place to justify Thierry Henry's actions? Somewhere simply to cry? Look no further.

I'll be bringing you all the latest reaction, gossip, chat and news so get involved and let's get this debate raging. I'm sure a fair few of you will have some pretty strong views on the subject?

Nice one.

I cannot believe what i am hearing, Ireland begging for an additional place????

On what merrit?

There is no guarentee that you would go through after the penailties.
Also
When asking for a descision to be replayed, you must take into consideration, if then everyone else in your group, may have complaints ie - he tugged his shirt and no free kick was given lets say in the first group match - just as much relevance as what happens in the last group match.

So if you have to replay this match, you have to replay them all.

Those comments are so fustrating, Bill are we asking for every game to be replayed?

Was this a group game?

No it was a playoff place, a 2nd leg, that went into extra time!

More then 180 minutes of football played, for a part in a competition that doesn't come around for another 4 years...

and the only difference was an act of cheating!

Has every fa cup game got replayed since arsenal sheff utd?

This is a World Cup, and while the chances of us going now look slim, we have EVERY right to ask for a replay after finishing the qualifying stages unbeaten, having the playoffs seeded, and being cheated in after 200 minutes of football!

The funny thing about it is that FIFA are actually taking this seriously

The thing when everyone mentions Georgia is that Georgia werent eliminated as a result. They still remained in the tournament- look at Ireland, no other routes to qualify through?

If this had happened to France and Ireland went through, I wonder how FIFA would have reacted?

If this was England you too would feel very, very bitter. Ireland rarely get to a major competition, never mind a world cup. The country is bankrupt, My city is half under water and I have been made redundant.... This would have been a major lift and it was unjustfully stolen from us by "fairplay FIFA."

Venting our anger is theraputic. If we were totally passive People would find cheating acceptable.

i think that irland should replace france in the world cup. most of those french players have been in the world cup and most of the irish havent it isnt fair. Cameras recorded when theirry henry hand balled the ball why not tell the referee and disallow the goal
