Republic of Ireland
comment on the article

just finished up and we look further away from south africa than ever.
silly mistakes ....the back line made loads of mistakes and apart from a few lucky breaks we didnt look threatening at all
for all the people slating glen whelan and andrews had good games tonight...
as far kevin doyle .played well but.needs to stay in the box with keane and trap should be telling duff to go the end line instead of silly flicks and same for lawrence ...he played well too
why were lawrence and doyle taking off and LEON BEST brought on...he was useless.
tryin to be optimistic but if france score again thats game set and match for us

"because it should be a wonderful spectacle"

Unfortunately I think it won't be a nice spectacle, the most probable scenario is a boring match.
I think that the game will be a very closed one.
France will not take risks, and Ireland will wait the end of the game to take some (depending on the score again).

High balls in the box ! All I can say.

@ iregretronnie (U8035700)

Why don't you go comment on your old dusty Italian team somewhere else and let people speaks about the boys in green please.

Boys, as a Scot, IŽm going to tell you that beating France at their turf isnŽt impossible. If you get stuck in about them and stop them from playing the game, youŽll have a better chance of taking something away from the game.

Granted it took a 35-yard wonderstrike from McFadden, but to be honest with you the Irish team you have at the moment is probably on a par with the Scotland team we had at that time (certainly better than the Scotland team we have now..)

All the best to you tonight, IŽll be rooting for you. IŽm sure South Africa would MUCH rather have an invasion of Irish than French smiley

Good morning everybody guys, I'm happy to see that our debate has improved. Let me just point out some little facts for some of you.

@ FrenchTouch: you're wrong, it will be sure a big show, because the reward is incredibly important, go to S.Af. or stay at home. I agree with you that your scenario has most chances to come true, so let's wait for the last 30 mins., we will see an incredible battle. But it's also possible that French will feel qualified in advance and will take risks: the best scenario for Trap.

@ myeomye: you must not be an Irish, so unpolite and nervous. Let me remind you that Italy is all but dusty, our World Cup is shining bright and, how can I say?, rather fresh. I never talked about Italy as a team, w're talking about different ways to see football. And, to tell the truth, it's your "High balls in the box" that is pretty old-fashion, and would be the best gift for French side. Anyway, let me tell you that, even if you're so rough, Italy's support will only be for Ireland tonight, we're just discussing on the best way to improve your chances, because, as individuals, French are much better players, so your only chance is to be smart, and not allow France to score at all in the first half of the game. Let'em think to be better and safe, let'em attack to please their ignorant supporters (that's why it's possible to win in Paris, as Scamilton says), then sting'em in the last quarter. Another game will start from that moment. Fortunately Trap knows it well enough, more than you: catenaccio + contropiede.

(with catenaccio + contropiede Brazil would have won a dozen World Cup in a row)

French friend you have only ever won one world cup. C'mon are you suggesting France have a proud footballing history? pathetic. usual French arrogance displayed.

Come on lads, were gonna do it tonight. We drew with italy twice, I dont know why we think if we concede its over. We scored 3 times against the world champions. France are nowhere near Italy. I fancy a Dunne super header to bring it to extra time. Of we get about them and stop them getting the ball, and make it difficult for them when they do we have an excellent chance, we are not that inferior to them. We lack a dominateing midfielder. The answer for me is play McGeady, we have to use the wings, keep the ball out of the middle... except for in passes to Whelan on the 18 yard box!
