Andy Murray vs James Blake

Masters Series
by Mark A - BBC Sport (U5611457) 11 November 2009
comment on the article

The finale to the tennis season is building up nicely and Andy Murray is hoping to put his wrist injury to bed.

Things are looking good ahead of the ATP World Tour Finals in London in two weeks for the world number four.

It was glory in Valencia on Sunday. Now on Wednesday evening he's at the Paris Masters facing American James Blake who he beat to win at Queen's in the summer.

After being out for six weeks, Murray is desperate for match practice so how do you think he'll do in the French capital?

All thoughts on the match welcome. And what do you think about Rafael Nadal saving five match points to come through against Nicolas Almagro in three sets?

Murray and Blake are not due on court until at least 1945 GMT.

Good result for Andy, but what the hell were they thinking of starting a match at that time!?

Organisers must do better!

What stands out about Murray is that he is such an attractive player.

Blake played extremely well. Well enough to have been very disaapointed to lose. People who've been writing him off (and I plead guilty too) should watch that match because he was surprisingly dangerous and Andy did well to get through.

But this schedule would shame even the US Open. It should call in question whether Paris has a suitable venue for a Masters at this time of year.

The scheduling was an absolute disgrace!

If you look further to today's play, you will notice that AM is on the second court at 5.45pm. Compare that with Djokovic's court appearances - 1st on Centre yesterday and 2nd on Centre today.

Perhaps Paris Masters should not be where it is on the annual calendar.

Any comments?

I am an occasional 606er - I usually click through from the Sport site, as I have on this occasion. So I don't know if it's kosher to post about article ratings, but I'm afraid I can't resist. How has an article offering nothing by way of opinion beyond, "Murray winning Valencia was a good thing for him", so far managed to accrete 14 (count them) ratings of 1? Is it simply to underscore the fact that morons stalk these boards, and to ward off all but the most die-hard partisans? If so, it's spectacularly successful.

On a lighter note, I did find it amusing that 3 people have taken the trouble to rate such an innocuous article as a 3!

Exactly! Although yesterday you said it was his modesty, you're right again. Well done sir!

Maybe the organisers are trying to make the decision for which Masters gets axed a little easier?!

Personally, I think players should be able to choose which one to miss, rather than just Monte Carlo being optional. Maybe top 10 players should be able to cut out some ATP 200 events too?

Probaly cos it's written by a BBC journo...not the most revered of species among 606 tennis followers, but I agree quite strange to even take the effort rate a BBC posted article at all, they almost totally factual!
