Rory McIlroy has finally ended all speculation regarding a potential move to the PGA Tour.

Ahead of this week's Hong Kong Open 606's joint favourite golfer confirmed that he is to take out a full PGA Tour card next season, before insisting that the European Tour will remain his ''home Tour.''

Rory claimed the fact there are stronger fields and generally more owgr points on offer from week-to-week ultimately persuaded him to head to the US.

Rory played 11 events in the States this year, aswell as last weeks HSBC Champions in Shanghai, so he'd need to play an extra 3 PGA Tour tournaments to fulfil his new obligation.

Thoughts?

Very nice smiles and laughter by Rory and JP when Rory sank a long putt on the 18th to tie Westy.

Rory is young and he can easily travel the world playing week to week.

There will be no burn out till he a bit older.

Go for it Rory!!

Yo Mac!
Are you staying behind for a few days rest after Sun City? My Uncle has a game lodge about 90 mins away towards Botswana border! Well worth a look for some quiet R&R time!

Hes Northern Irish like myself!

Great news on the PGA. Youve got great things to come!

I think it is probably the right decision for him at this stage....although he might miss the new car he has just bought himself (traded in the Ferrari for a Lambo!). As someone who lives in NI, it is great that he, Darren, GMAC, Gareth Maybin and Micahel Hoey are flying the flag for "our wee country". They love him in the States and demand a lot of his time, but if he wants to be the world number 1, he must compete on a regular basis on the PGA tour. Tee to green he has the game, putting is a bit erratic but why would you not want to travel the states as a 20 year old.
Good luck to him...

Personally i think its a good. Itll give that tour some much needed character, diluting the mass of boring american 'personalities'. Altho, i would be slightly concerned that Rors hasnt won a couple more events over here before the move, learned to win, if you like. No doubt it will come. Go show 'em what we euros have got!

I play a bit of golf. I am not exactly amazing but I enjoy it but I do not fully understand the way the cars work the pros have got. From what I understand Rory will have to play a certain amount of tournaments in the US to fufiil his card buy is he also competeing in the race to Dubai next year in Europe? Is he playing 2 cards? I am a tad confused.

Cheers Kwini. It's a good choice to play in the US. Playing against the the top 3 in the world on a regular basis can only be great experience for him and at his age he should be ok with a pretty busy season.
