England v South Africa A

England
comment on the article

An interesting England line-up. Adil Rashid, with a First Class century this season and often regarded as a batsman who can bowl is down to come in at 10!

The seam bowling looks thin with Anderson and Broad rested and Onions injured. Bresnan and Mahmood are the only two real front--line seamers, backed-up by Wright and Collingwood. Swann and Adil Rashid with the spin.

Deep batting, but it could all go horribly wrong if one on the bowlers is collared. This looks like a batting shoot-out to see who misses out in the T20 and ODIs rather than a first-string XI.

Sorry, but long before the tour started,I stated that, bar warm up games,we would be very lucky to win any matches at all.Our performance in the shorter aspects of the game is abysmal, and this was not even a full strength South African "A" side.
As an expat here in Durban,I pray for the English team to do well, but, having beaten the two B sides in the first two games,I really cannot see where the next win is coming from.I hope and trust that I am wrong.
None of our first three games have even been featured on local TV,where they have opted for Provincial games innstead.

"3 run outs, without Owais Shah in the side. Very poor showing."

Actually, the England side could've used Shah in the side. How much did he make the last time he batted in an ODI against the Saffers on SA soil again?

Shivfan, this was T20, not an ODI.

No offence - but after 38 years in SA, is it not time for you to support your adopted country?

Yes, but it's same squad that's selected for both, isn't it?

No. Not really. Strauss, for example, is captain in ODIs, but Collingwood in T20 and Collingwood is no master strategist. Adil Rashid seems a fixture in T20, but less so in ODIs. There are typically 3 or 4 differences between the two squads.

3 run outs without Owais Shah is very good showing!! It shows we donīt need to depend upon him to shoot ourselves in the foot. 20twenty is porno cricket, so who cares ?
PS As a Kent man, I didnīt even know Joe Denly could bowl !

=============================

10 first class wickets to his name at 44 apparently, so perhaps a useful part-time bowler.

Yorker, the South Africans found him more than useful for target practice! biggrin

I was thinking more for tests or ODIs than in a T20 slog fest, where part timers traditionally get tonked. Could fulfil the sort of bowling role someone like KP fills now as a partnership breaker and someone to usher in the new ball.
