Para-cycling World Champs & Cup series

Track cycling
comment on the article

This weekend sees the Para-Cycling Track World Championships come to the Manchester Velodrome (6th - 8th November)

The squad for Great Britain is another incredibly strong one:

Mark Bristow, MBE (LC1)- 47 years old, sprinter, Olympic gold medallist in 2008 in the team sprint and the kilo

Jody Cundy MBE (LC2) - Olympic Gold medallist in the 2008 team sprint and TT, and has so many other palmares you should check his site here: www.jodycundy.com/palmares.h...

Neil Fachie (B/Vi) - switched from running to cycling in October '08, and won silver at the paralympic world cup in his first ever competitive event (piloted by Barney Storey)

Simon Jackson, MBE (B/Vi) – former Paralympian in judo, won 2 silvers in 2008 paralympic world cup (piloted by David Readle)

Darren Kenny (CP3)- won 4 golds and a silver in Beijing last year, plus a list of palmares as long as my arm: www.darrenkenny.co.uk/achiev...

Aileen McGlynn OBE (B/Vi) – twice gold medallist in Beijing, again, with many more amazing achievements over the years - www.britishcycling.org.uk/we... - (piloted by Ellen Hunter)

Simon Richardson (LC2) - won 2 golds and a silver in Beijing, as well as coming 10th in the road race

Sarah Storey MBE(LC1)- winner of 2 golds in Beijing, and also the winner of multiple paralympian swimming medals as well - her website hasn't been updated for a while, but check out these palmares: www.sarah-bailey.com/results... - she has broken at least 48 world records since 1992. She's also the current British national pursuit champion, as the competition was open to all athletes. You can follow Sarah on twitter at twitter.com/MrsSarahStorey

Lora Turnham (B/Vi)(piloted by Rebecca Rimmington)
Rik Waddon (CP3)
Russ White (LC1)

So it should be another weekend of Brit general brilliance...

There are still tickets available for the event, so if you're in the neighbourhood and want to see some world class cycling, and more British track glory, go along!

There's more information on the event here: new.britishcycling.org.uk/pa... and the results will be posted here: new.britishcycling.org.uk/pa...

Also announced this week is the brand new Para-Cycling Track World Cup series, which is excellent, giving the athletes more opportunities to compete on the world stage. For 2010 the series will consist of 3 rounds, in Corrèze, France, 21st-23rd May, Segovia, Spain 11th - 13th June and Baie-Comeau in Canada on 2nd - 4th July - but in future years the UCI plan to expand it, adding at least one more event on a different continent. There's more about that here: www.uci.ch/Modules/ENews/ENe... and here: www.cyclingnews.com/news/uci...

According to Cyclign Weekly, Sarah Storey's winning Individual Pursuit time would have placed her in 2nd place at the Track World Cup last weekend. I would love to see the World Cup series open up to all cyclists, and to see Sarah destroy those as well. She's a seriously impressive athlete
